Horse insurance...holy smokes they jacked up the price!!

Thanks everyone. I have a CareCredit account as well but it’s only for $2800.

I’ll definitely look into Broadstone! Thanks for all the tips! I know the policy I was quoted from Legis covers 100% of diagnostics, which is fantastic. 70% or more is still great, I’m just trying to figure out if the higher premium is worth it vs. paying more out of pocket if something were to happen.

I left Markel a few years ago. [/QUOTE]

I left them a few years back too when, after my brand new horse with crappy TB soles was clipped too short, they tried to exclude “lameness” on the renewal.
Not even kidding.

I insure with Hallmark and they’ve been amazing. I’ve had horrible luck the last few years and they’ve cheerfully paid out the >$12k I spent over two years on the mare and the mortality plus the vet bill on my gelding that we had to put down. It has been well worth the cost.
Event horses up to training are 3.5% of value for Mortality plus I think it was around $750 for Major Med up to $7500.
I know that I’m personally not able to “self insure” for the mortality portion and it’s only because I had the insurance that I was able to get a new horse of the same/better quality than the one that died.

I went through Broadstone, too. Super low mortality coverage but decent MM. Around $290 for the year, IIRC.
