To VFX111: Okay, I’ll play “Price the Horse,” with the caveat that I know nothing about mid-Atlantic pricing and will be answering in Pacific Northwest customary pricing terms. Second caveat: My prices reflect what I think reasonable sellers here would ask–not unreasonable, unrealistic sellers who pop up everywhere from time to time. And of course I’m generally off–sellers might ask 10% or even 20% more. And sellers do come down on their asking prices…
Horse #1: A little too tall, I’d worry a tiny bit about soundness. And how come no reliable lead changes at 9 yo? Factoring in that h/j world is crazy, maybe 10K. Beginner horse for a rider on a tight budget with modest goals, i.e. just getting in the ring?
Horse #2: Height doesn’t make me worry. Great flatwork, big plus. Again, 8 yo and iffy changes–how come? Would want to see his attitude over cross-rails. Does he have a metronomic canter? Other promising signs? 20K
Horse #3: Height okay, but a 4 yo sewing machine? Again, looking for other virtues, like breeding, temperament, etc. Still young and green, and those gaits don’t recommend: 10K
Horse #4: Way tall, would want excellent conformation and great PPE. What does “great jump” mean, beyond good form over fences? Again, looking for other virtues, like metronomic canter, eagerness, bravery… And how come he’s 8 and has no show record? I’d price this one on a par with #2, because each has one important virtue: 20K
All prices assume that claims in the ad are accurate. Very interested to see what others have to say…
