Horses and "your space"
today I always get a smile as there were several days that I would stop by the house during the day when the kids were growing up to find they had our Morgan horse in the house watching TV together as it was too hot outside (or last that was the reason they gave me).

The horse never harmed a thing in the house, just acted like she belonged there
Honestly, if I had horses at home and they wanted to come in the house…I’d totally let them. They’re not heat-seeking missiles looking to destroy everything in their path!

Too funny!

I would do the same thing ybiaw. Except Fina would try to eat EVERYTHING in my apartment! She’d probably chase the cat around, too

Hahaha! Yes. I probably wouldn’t have let the QH in the house, though, he was a little rambunctious. Like the time I had him on a lead rope and went to get something out of my car and he promptly bit the door frame and left two weird horsey tooth marks in the paint job. He was a strange one.

I agree with Blue. You have to work with the horse that you have.

I would say whoever trained Sim, trained him that when you touched his muzzle he was good. The problem is is that he likes touching you with his muzzle but he also is one that will take a bite, only 1 times out of 1000 but he is a horse that you have to watch.

I have taught him that he is not allowed to move his head when he is standing still and I have to remind him when we are leading that he does not walk along with his muzzle on my arm/hand.

That said I do realise that it is calming for him so I do use it and let him touch me occasionally, just not 24 hours a day.

th![](s was the horse and her charge, they grew up together, both were the same ages… actually a large pony at 14.1 but all Morgans are horses per the registry

What a wonderful horse, too bad it was a Morgan. (Just kidding!)

They make a fetching pair there, don’t they.

yeah they were always up to so![](ething

daughter’s school friends love the horse also as the horse was often ponied up to the elementary school by older daughter on her horse to pick up her up (advantage of a small town, even though I can see downtown Ft Worth and Dallas)

The best memories are made of kids and their horse, or is it horse and it’s kids?

Those horses that are respectful of your space, along with those kids that are respectful also, make the best combination, don’t they.

or ![](s it horse and it’s kids?.
horse and its kids … our vet of many years was out this week to see an ailing horse (another Morgan we have)… he was working with Mr. Horse as he called him saying that Morgans are so often very stoic then said that Foxie was a wonderful horse …referring to the Morgan that was our kid’s

He was remising about the founder issue she had when she was 24, that he could not believe a horse would stand in ice water for a week, which she did. X-Rays afterwards show no sign of damage to her hoof due to the founder, we had some x-rays from about ten years prior that he was able to overlay on the new ones… no rotation at all

[IMG]http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b386/clanter/May2008181.jpg)

She had her fan, and her TV is out of sight in this photo, but she stayed the cross ties standing ice water for seven or eight days watched TV most of the time, liked the old action TV series the best

Nice setup, TV too, good that she recovered that well, wow.

My older mare is generally pretty polite about my personal space, but every once in a while she wants to test it. A sharp smack or a cut it out and she is back to her normal self. My younger mare is a work in progress. She is not bad about her body getting in my space, but her MO is to whap you with her head if she is confused or not wanting to do something. She is much better than when I purchased her and does this only occasionally.

My two horses - half brother and sister - one by Royal Appearance was born polite, the other, Irish bred, is not so much…, insensitive, bombproof, thick, and overly friendly. Both born here, treated the same.

Is this the same horse you have been having problems with?

As for backing up horses to teach them space, not a good idea. Backing up isn’t something your horse should be afraid of or reluctant to do.
Dungrulla: No, it’s my other one. It does work for her  She also isn’t afraid of or reluctant to back up.

Haha, that’s okay  You don’t have to agree with anything… if it works for me and my horses, that’s what I use. Lot’s of trial and error, yes. Every horse is different
