Horses found - owner missing - Truckee, CA- caught and reunited with owner

Good news. Must have updated within the last 1/2 hour, wish they included more details about what happened.

That’s what I do, every trail ride no matter how short or long. I have a ring I attached to the front of the saddle and tie the lead rope in such a way that one pull on the free end unties it.

My own escapee story:
DH and I were horse camping and while on a ride decided to have lunch and relax in this beautiful meadow and allow the horses to graze. All was well until we heard some gunshots way off in the distance. Horses’ heads came up, they looked at each other and took off cantering down the trail. We ran after them of course and here they come back, tails in the air doing that kind of canter when they’re just playing. They go past us and turn around and run past us again, still doing that same stupid canter. In fact, Woodrow actually whinnied at me as he went by, the bugger! Luckily both stopped and were quietly grazing at the end of the meadow right where the trail split; they probably didn’t know which way to go to get back to camp. They let us catch them and I think they were snickering at us the whole way back. Stinkers.

Two friends of mine were horse camping and also let their horses graze while having lunch. However, those two took off and were missing for about 10 days. They were found on a forest service road by a local farmer.

Yes dammit! Enquiring minds want to know what happened. COTH demands answers. Haha!

I hope they are staying quiet because they are ashamed of doing something dumb, and are not recovering from frostbite or injuries. One would think some form of gratitude would be in order, especially on Thankgiving. But cool that the horses are home.

Any updates???

Just that they were found and reunited with their owners. No details. It’s at the top of the FB post.

Glad to hear it!

Maybe it is a good reminder to make sure we are thinking about what we are doing!
