Did you ever have her tested for HERDA? This could be a sign of it.
@cutter99 Yes I am going to after the quarantine here. I hadn’t tested previously as the test was very expensive, and the problem went away until today.
We brought a horse home from the track who was covered in fungus. I think that is about the time Equus came out w their products, so I used the fungal shampoo they recommended on this horse. He peeled like a grape. Several times. I called them and they said they’d never heard of that happening. I did some research- it’s a bit like Zimectrin Gold, I think. Anyway, if you don’t have a diagnosis yet and you used that product, it might be the culprit. Hope this helps someone.
Would echo the sentiment to have her tested as soon as possible.
If not HERDA, from what I can see in that pic the skin underneath looks like it might be really irritated and red. Is she turned out somewhere she can rub herself against something in that spot? IF not HERDA, almost looks like whatever recurring issue she’s having is bothering the crap out of her. My lease mare has environmental allergies, and rubbed her neck on the fence so bad that one day she was fine, saw her the next day and she’d made herself a nice bald patch. Possible the change was so dramatic because she attempted to scrape herself on something, hence the missing hair.
As for the return of the wrinkles, time for test & vet check again.
Lantana also causes photosensitivity.
oh that’s way cheaper! Ok I’ll try that. I don’t believe it’s herda, as it changes so often, but I am going to test to make sure 😄
Agreed. It’s so so weird 🙠Seen thousands of horses and nothing like this 🤪
Yes, she has 20 acres of forest and pasture she gets turned out to. And the stalls are made from telephone poles, which one horse did give himself a little bald spot from.
Yep, I have used that in the past, and I do believe a shampoo made it worse the first time. Used mane and tail (her first bath in a while since it was so cold) And the day after it got worse 🤔 I’ll look into that… her fur sure got half thinner after the bath.
Maybe you don’t have it over there. I
Lantana is a plant with some colorful flowers. I believe it was introduced to Australia by gardeners.
It is a pest plant and then they introduced the lantana beetle to fight it. I think the plant is winning.
