Seems [h=3]Werginz Innovations[/h]is responsible for the farrier’s website ;)[/QUOTE]

Then that’s advertising so it’s against forum rules,so post should be reported…

We have one with something similar right now. No itching, no crusts, flakes or inflammation, but some is possible at microscopic level. Just hair falling out. No other horse is effected. There can be sooooo many causes of hair loss; a person could go broke trying to figure it out and to treat it!

At first we thought was allergic reaction. Spoke with two animal dermatologists. One wanted to charge $2300 (including 6 months shots, and horse would be on shots forever)! They also wanted horse sedated by vet, so figure in farm call and sedation charges.

Second vet wanted pics, lab reports. After vet reviewed info, she said she was not sure it was allergy. Said that allergy tests can only be conducted for: mold, pollen, and grasses (good to know, we were wondering about allergies to bugs). Said could be skin infection or autoimmune. Vet could come out for exam and not sure what else for $350. Said that cytology report analysis depends upon who reads them and theirs would be $700?!? Said could do a run of Dex (I asked human pharmacist about hair loss in people, autoimmune issues…learned that some autoimmune diseases in people are treated with up to 6 months of Dex, then tapered off) (thank you, second vet for being so thorough and honest!). Started horse on Dex 3 days ago.

I am waiting to hear back from my vet about possibly starting some antibiotics (since allergist though possible skin infection based on lab reports (that my vet may have missed :frowning: ).

Read about mitches, gnats allergy causing hair loss in horses and how treated. Read that Advantage for large dogs applied to a horse can help with that. Here are some interesting ideas for treatment in this article: http://equusmagazine.com/article/eqsweetitc378
