More a YA book, Amy Maltman’s Ride Every Stride. Just finished. Good story, knowledgeable, entertaining.
I recal “the Lady” is a tory from the point of view of a retired jumper.
Loved it
Fortunes Fool I can’t believe I read the whole thing Just hoping it got better. It did not.
Jody Jaffe. Her three books featuring Natty Gold.
Another Kind of Cowboy is one of my favorite books of all times!! It’s about a teen boy riding dressage in Victoria Canada. It’s YA but very well written and I love the humor. Very accurate horse details and she does a great job making it about horses but developing the characters as well. I wish she’d write another!!

Well, first for a non-spammy recommendation, Horseback Reads is a wonderful website which features seven equestrian-focused authors. Many of the books are geared to adults or even if they have teenage protagonists, focus on mature themes. It’s a great place to start.

Now for the spam–as you can see in my sig line, I am an author of horse-related fiction. My most recent work Fortune’s Fool is actually on sale right now as a Kindle Countdown Deal for .99. So if you would like to check it out, now is a good time!
Just read this because of this thread and I gotta say that I really liked it. Love how the trainer is probably based on one of our favourite curmudgeon…???

I forgot to mention Eventer’s Dream. http://www.amazon.com/Eventers-Dream-Eventing-Trilogy-Book-ebook/dp/B00P2OL1JI/ref=pd_sim_351_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=51RL%2BdQDfrL&dpSrc=sims&preST=UX300_PJku-sticker-v3%2CTopRight%2C0%2C-44_AC_UL160_SR94%2C160&refRID=13E09R6WCFZS6G2E5WCV
I didn’t care for the sequel. But the first book is hilarious.
I love these books (there are 3 in the series - Eventer’s Dream, A Hoof in the Door and Ticket to Ride), they inspire me to ride every time and are hilarious!

Jody Jaffe. Her three books featuring Natty Gold.
Thanks Happytalk.
I’ve got two in the works. One from the viewpoint of her daughter, called “Whoa Nellie.” And the other from Nattie’s view as a woman of a certain age. Don’t have a title yet for that. When I get a few more chapters written, I’d love to get some feedback. So if anyone’s interested, please email me at Jmuncie@aol.com and put “Nattie Reader” in the message. Happy trails!

Jane Smiley’s Horse Heaven is one of my favorites.
one of my absolute favorite books ever! Jilly Cooper’s ‘Riders’, and subsequent novels, are pure indulgent trashy entertainment but so much fun!!
I love Dick Francis, too. Some of the books are very horsey, others hardly at all. My favorites include Straight, Break In and Bolt, Banker, Reflex, Longshot, Shattered. The ones about Sid Halley are also good although sometimes I just want to shake Sid. Another favorite is the very first one, Dead Cert. I lent my copy to someone about ten years ago and never got it back; I’ve been waiting for it to come out as a Kindle edition.
Dead Cert was the first Dick Francis book that I read (when I was in 5th grade!) and it is still my favorite.
Thanks for the Dick Francis recommendations, everyone! Sadly not all of them are available for Kindle But I downloaded “Straight” the other night and am really enjoying it so far!
I will be in touch! So thrilled to hear that you have new books coming, I’ve read all three several times!
I was just coming on here to recommend In and Out. It’s a guilty pleasure book of mine and I’ve been anxiously awaiting another installment!
Same
In and Out was a great guilty pleasure!
Just read that Jilly Cooper will have another book out in September!
“Hot Blood” - Ken Englade
This is a great read! Murder, mystery, and fraud. I’m not sure its ‘technically’ fiction but worth reading! http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Blood-Money-Heiress-Murders/dp/0312143583
I read all those Pony Jumpers in New Zealand books. Then I went and binge watched youtube videos of pony jumpers! will need to go through the thread again for more

I didn’t realize you were a CoTHER! I bought your books on vacation and they were great! I love the characters!
Natalie Keller Reinert’s books are some of the best I’ve read recently and she’s got the Alex & Alexander series that I would classify as an adult read.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed them on your vacation! There are quite a few CoTHER authors out there and COTH has been a great resource to me as a writer.
I absolutely love Natalie’s books. She has a sequel coming out very, very soon to Ambition and I can’t wait to read it!
OMG really?!! I’ve been dying for the next installment! I could use some more Alex in my life too honestly.
Yes, I am friends with Natalie on Facebook and Twitter and Ambition’s sequel Pride (which also features some characters from Show Barn Blues) is just going through the final editing process! Naturally, I have a certain fondness for anti-heroes/ heroines in the eventing world!
OK so these are technically KIDS books but I read the first few to my daughter and then when she was reading them on her own, I snatched each one and read it myself. The series is called Horse Diaries and from what I understand, was written by a mother-daughter team who so enjoyed Black Beauty and the idea of a realistic novel from the POV of the horse that they wanted to write more.
Each book features a specific breed set in an appropriate time and place to make light historical fiction. Light, because they are kids’ books. But they were fun to read!
