Anyone have ideas for horsey events/activities in the Denver area during the month of July? Would love to visit a ranch that produces ranch horses, but wouldn’t even know where to start. Thanks.
The regional Morgan show is the 5th-9th at the National Western Complex. It has some of everything – Western & Hunter pleasure, saddle seat, driving, jumping, etc… More here:
There is a big Hunter/Jumper AA rated show in Estes Park (about 1.5 hours from Denver) up in the mountains.

Estes Park starts the last week of July.
Closest real “Ranch” is the T-Cross South of Colorado Springs right off I-25 - they raise cutting and ranch horses. Owner, Bob Norris was one of the original Marlboro Men and was President of AQHA . You probably could go by for a visit, after calling first.

May I suggest giving yourself at least 2 days to do it? M W F is the free pancake breakfast, T, Th, Sat. is the parades. Do the rodeo one day, and the Indian Village and everything else the next. I don’t even bother taking the kids to the rodeo, we just do the Indian village.
Last year I bought tickets on teh Denver Post Steam Train for my mother, daughter, sister and myself. We actually dressed up in late 1800’s garb, and had a blast. It was a long, but special day. Make reservations early, the town fills up fast. Ft. Collins or Greeley might be easier. I have also stayed in Chugwater, Wy and all the way out to Nebraska before I moved here.
The Botanical gardens are in Lions Park, which is next door to Frontier Park where they hold the rodeo. Very gorgeous. You can also swim in the lake there, and my kiddos usually get a dunking before they get in the car to go home. The museum at Frontier park is great, I highly recommend that as well.
The rodeo is put on by an all volunteer staff, and it is truly amazing. You feel like they did it all just because they knew you were coming.
