People who leave your dogs in cars overnight in motel parking lots: Aren’t you terrified they’ll be stolen?? Or you car will be broken into and they’ll get loose and run away?? If the only option was for my dogs to stay in the car overnight, I’d be sleeping right there with them.
Hands down Best Western has been the best dog friendly hotel I have used. I have not traveled with three dogs yet but some of them have even “forgotten” the pet fee. I don’t sneak dogs in (well I did one very hot night) with a new Lab puppy because it was late and we were exhausted/stopped at first hotel with, of course, a no dog policy. I would ask ahead of time because I don’t want to risk a $200 fine!

This would worry me too. I know my sister does it sometimes (she breeds/shows Golden Retrievers) and only if it is a motel type situation and they can park the van right outside their door, but even then I’d still be worried.

Not a lot. I did at first.
My window tint in the back is so dark you can’t really see there are crates back there at all, and this time of year I throw a blanket over them too. If they weren’t out of sight I could never do it, I would worry. Also the dogs are silent when crated. Finally, my dogs intimidate most people, and one would go ape if someone actually got in there.

On my way home, I stopped at a hotel where I hadn’t been, and they asked me if my dog was “big” or “small” before applying the pet charge. I said, “Well, I guess I’d have to say big”, but added that she was very well behaved, quiet, and clean, and I guess they believed me as they only charged me the “small” dog rate![/QUOTE]
Hahahaha!:encouragement: Folks, Houndhill has the world’s tallest dogs: Irish Wolfhounds!!
The crating overnight in the parking lot seems to vary based on discipline and, I guess naturally, size. Seems more common with hunting and protection sport owners who often have dog boxes and trailers than OB owners. It also seems more common with, say, Retrievers than Toys.
I always bring a sheet to cover the bed, a crate, and never leave my dog unsupervised in the room (often a hotel rule).
