How are your Feiner Stern's doing?

No one has updated this in a long time, so I figured I’d give it a bump since I have a bit of an update.

I started my young Feiner Stern under saddle about 3 weeks ago after a good bit of ground work. He’s doing SUPER. I couldn’t ask for a better horse. Correct gaits, wonderful mind, and a good work ethic. I plan to ride him for a few more weeks and then give him the winter/early spring off. He’s still about 2" high behind, so he has quite a lot more growing to do. I just wanted to lay the foundation this fall and then come back to him later for the start of his “real” work.

(I got a bit over zealous with the “fade” effect, so some of the transitions got cut preeeeetty short. And feel free to ignore my disastrous position. Prior to starting him, I hadn’t had a lesson in…oh…8 years? So lessons (lots of them) and a new saddle are on the short list. ;))

Please - tell me how all the other Feiner Sterns are doing!?!

Ah, yes. Good to see this bumped up. Our Feiner Stern mare, Feiner Fantasy, completed her Mare Performance Test and is an Elite Mare Candidate. She is currently showing First Level and is almost ready to make the move up to Second.

We plan to breed her in early spring to Rubignon to complete her Elite Mare status by producing a foal that we think will be a knock-out.

I felt like I was holding my mare back, so I have mostly turned her over to my trainer. I still ride her on weekends when I can, but I have problems with my hands (numbness in my right hand and severe arthritis in my left ring finger), so it’s a bit problematic. Maresy tolerates me pretty well, but she REALLY shines with the trainer - is in the double bridle and doing half pass, walk pirouettes, etc., plus is schooling some baby passage and half-steps on occasion.

Sonesta, congrats on the MPT results! I’m not surprised to hear it - Fancy looks fantastic! Can’t wait to see her foal.

Downyonder, I’m so very sorry to hear about your hands. How frustrating that must be. :frowning: Such good news about your mare’s training, though! I’d love to see some pictures.

Yes, very frustrating! I can’t completely close my left ring finger, so have a hard time keeping my left rein from slipping through that hand. And my right hand goes numb from carpal tunnel syndrome. After about 5-10 minutes of riding, I can barely feel my thumb and index finger. I am about to go in for another finger injection (dang, I hate those things!), and may see if he will inject my wrist at the same time. I keep worrying that I am ruining my mare’s mouth, but the trainer seems to get her fixed again. Edited to add that I don’t dare ride in the double with my hand problems!

As for photos - haven’t done any in the past few years, so it is definitely time for new ones, esp. now that she is in the double!

Congrats on your guy! Hope he proves to have the same great work ethic my mare has!

Since last input on this post, my mare, Feiner Abend “Farrah” completed her full Elite status with American Hanoverian Society by producing an amazing filly by Sinatra Song, SingVogel “SongBird”.

After weaning SongBird, Farrah has been doing so well in full training as a hunter. That fits her perfectly. We are excited for Thermal in a couple of months! She is in training at Stepping Stone Sporthorses with amazing trainers Dacia Peters Imperato and husband, Mario.

Farrah has a great will to win and wins hearts at the barn as well.
