How did you find your trainer?
Under the couch behind a couple of dust bunnies.
I’ve found my trainer there too, after she had pretty much a full bottle of wine
I did one of them (there are a few!) this week and LOVED it, it was the one by Holly Hepp Hudspeth. It wasn’t very complicated but was great to have the reminders, and what do you know my horse went better as I fixed myself.
The Ride IQ lessons can be downloaded and then played when you don’t have cell service which is awesome.
My mare’s trot always goes up one level when I do Lauren’s sitting trot cues lesson. Someday I’ll be able to replicate it without the lesson, but I guess I’m a slow learner. She also has a longer one that is just general position cues.
I haven’t read all the replies but we’re twinsies in that I’m also a re-rider, keep horses at home, full time job and kids.
The one saving grace is my job is commission so my schedule is my own for the most part. I can and do haul out for lessons on weekdays.
I found her by stalking her Facebook page after spending months googling and searching for local lessons. Started slowly and now take 2 lessons a week - though honestly rarely get in 2 (hoping better weather will solve that).
My trailer is my tack room so it saves time. I have learned to catch, load and go. No wraps, no shipping boots, no marathon grooming sessions.
It’s hard, and when work is stressful I’m always so tempted to cancel lessons because they feel like the lowest on the priority list, but it’s the one place I can let go of life. I forget work, kids, everything else. Just me in my happy place.
My experience is that the trainer for re-riders like us are the buried, small program, semi retired, been there done that former competitive riders. Not worried about their own show career, but with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.
