How do you cat-proof your Christmas tree?

That’s a really good idea. Command hooks and some fishing line might be the ticket, unless they full on try to scale it.

We are probably going to use our artificial tree. It’s many old and a bit sad looking at this point, but at least if they destroy it, no one will care.

OMG :joy: I never thought cat proofing the Christmas tree was a thing! I only have dogs but besides the oldest being a bit confused and trying to pee on the tree ( oh thank you, finally you installed an indoor toilet!) I never had any issue

This made me laugh!

I have given up having a Christmas tree. BUT growing up we had 7 in/outdoor cats and no one ever bothered the trees.

May be just do white Christmas lights and go for a miminalist Christmas look this year???

They are only kittens for a short time. Next year you can decorate.

When my current 2 cats were kittens, I used the Ssscat compressed air sprayers around the base of the tree. You kind of have to strategically place them if your tree is in a room that you are also in all the time, otherwise be prepared to have the crap scared out of you when you pass by and set them off yourself!

I screwed the tree base to a piece of plywood approximately 3’x3’ then nailed the plywood right to my floor. Also, unbreakable ornaments on the lower branches. In recent years I have given up on the big tree and just put out the little ceramic tree, but I do miss the traditional tree with the bubble lights on it.

:astonished: What kind of flooring do you have?
Please don’t say hardwood
I’d nail the CAT to the floor first!(kidding :smirk:)!

LOL! No hardwood… just rough wood with crappy carpeting over it back then.

We put our (real) tree up on 11/25. The morning of 11/26 I see lil miss Gemma sitting with her 2 ornament ‘kills.’ There were 3 more hiding under the table. Fortunately no ornaments were fatally injured and all have remained on the tree since then. She’s 3 and I think that the one night of evening-time Christmas tree shenanigans were enough for her.

I tried to get a photo of her posing with her trophies, but as soon as Wheatabix sauntered over she popped up to show him her winnings.

From reddit, a Bearded Dragon got loose in the house and was missing for 4 days before they found his little butt…

“You don’t need a tree.”

One viewer commented:
"Just put a star on his head, and call him a tree. No muss, no fuss. Less stress. "

The bearded dragon needs a new tree when this one dries out, is what I think. Not that anyone asked me.

Good thing his owner said this one is fake. Pine is actually toxic for most reptiles. But yeah, people say they’re semi-arboreal and don’t need too much height to climb, but some of them LIVE for climbing.

Lol!!
I put a ex pen around mine, but before that I just didn’t put ornaments on the bottom third bc the dogs were stealing them

Cat-proof and…well, anything don’t belong in the same sentence.

I put up a little fake tree last year - ornament-free and the older cats were only mildly interested but Baler really wanted to climb up it and knock it over. This year - eh, I’m not feeling very Christmas-y right now and all my Christmas stuff is in storage and I don’t feel like rooting thru there to go get it, so might pass on the whole thing but if I do I have a small ceramic lighted tree I can put up. It might prove fairly hard to knock over. I hope. ha ha
