I took him to a sorting over the weekend, rode him in the warm up for an hour and then we did 3 rounds on the cows. He was fine. He enjoyed himself. I went yesterday and took him for a long hand walk around fields and up and down hills and along the road. He was fine. I’m just trying to be practical that a sorting and cutting job for him, more than something very occasional, is likely not going to be in his best interest.

Meloxicam is also a long-term NSAID that is less expensive than Equiox. There’s a horse at my barn who is on it.

Just how much do you think you are going to get for him being unsound to get a “bigger budget”? Try to do the right thing. Get him on pasture board somewhere. That will increase your budget immediately. Then go from there. The good karma alone will help out too.

Feronia is also on Meloxicam. It costs 3 or 4 cents per pill and she gets 15 per day. The vet has to order it for me and I have to pick it up, since it’s off-label for horses.
