How do you increase your Facebook presence?

Thank you! Just using a few of the tips from here and my reach/impact has improved significantly.

Can you have video already uploaded to youtube linked and show up under “video” rather than scattered under the wall postings? Or do you have to literally upload to facebook to have it show up under “video”?

(We have slow internet so it is painful to think about having to upload video to facebook in order to have it neatly categorized under “video” when it is already on youtube…)

TIA!

A Facebook friend just posted this link on that very subject. It made me laugh, but if you’re extremely offended by some bad language, you’ll want to skip it: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/facebook_likes

I just saw again that cute babypictures (equine!) will always get more attention than anything else lol

Just have to add/stress not to confuse your personal page with your business, either unwittingly or on purpose. I follow a barn on fb that posts their political leanings from time to time, and honestly would consider removing them from my list even if I agreed with their views. It’s annoying and really unprofessional.

OK rant over!

Go to the YouTube video you want to put on your FB page and copy the link, then just post it on your FB Home page. It does not have to load all over again!

Look on your fb admin section to get your custom URL, you should be able to turn that ugly long link into www.facebook.com/TrinitySportHorses by claiming a custom url.

Then, when you edit your Coth signature, write what you want your link to say, such as “Follow us on Facebook!” then highlight that text, click the little globe with the link icon (link kinda looks like a paperclip) and paste the link to your facebook page in the box that pops up. That will clean up your signature line (if you want)

If coth signature doesn’t have those editing options open one of these post boxes, follow the steps above, then instead of posting copy everything in the post box (should look like [URL…]Follow us on facebook!) and paste that into your signature.
Ok, I have done both of these things…can someone tell me if the link in my Signature works?
Thanks!

Yes it does

Works for me

FREE ADVERTISING!

Well all these tips have been working wonders! Facebook sent me a $50 free advertising credit for passing the “50 likes” milestone.
Did you know that you can target your advertisments? You can choose the gender, age(s), location, and more so your ad appears only to your best audience. For example, you could choose females ages 40-60, that live in the same state as you, who “like” dressage (on FB) and/or Smartpak and/or Dover Saddlery, etc! Then, you are only charged when someone actually clicks on your ad.
I had not realized all this from what people mentioned above about FB ads, so I thought I would share.

I didn’t know that either! Thanks for sharing!!

Tasker’s FB page has nearly 8,200 fans as of this evening. Part of the appeal is showing the joy the horses provide as they are family, pure and simple. Sharing the equine positives, and the growth spurts, as well as the finished adults as they mature gives fans a window into the development.
Great horses are made, not just hatched! That runty puppy can win at Westminster. That gawky yearling can go on to win international medals. What’s not to like about that!

Great thread providing tons of useful info. We only launched our FB page yesterday so all this advice to us is priceless!!!

We’ve managed to collect a good number of Likes but mainly from our existing Friends on the personal page

Our page is in a sense rather unique - we’re starting to engage the community before we’ve even built the place itself! We hope to progress through the building stages fairly quickly and are counting on the fact that people’s inquisitive nature will attract them to see how we get on along the way! Hopefully also creating a sense of involvement and curiosity to come see the place once it’s ready

I would very much appreciate your comments and suggestions on how to improve and make it more attractive to a wider audience!

For a start, following the tips shared earlier, I’m trying to add a Signature here but for some reason it doesn’t seem to work… :frowning:

Thanks for all the useful advice in this thread!

I find it hard to decide which language I should write in, any advice?

So far our FB page only has 49 likes and out of those 49 only eight are international.
I feel it looks a bit cluttered when I’m writing in Swedish and then translating it to English. I want the page to be easily available for everyone, both local and international and that makes it hard for me to decide.

Fredrikshill, I just Liked your page so now you’ve got 50!

I think having it in English is a MUST! If you’re writing in your local language, you’re limiting yourself to a local audience. You have some lovely photos on your page but that’s as much as I can admire as I have no idea what any of the text is about :frowning:

For that reason I have created mine in two languages. And I put English first! I think in today’s world presenting it in English is a must… for a start, for those expats in Sweden who do not speak the language!

I guess the only exception would be if the page owner (or anyone around him) does not speak English, then it might become a problem if people do reach out with comments & questions - but that certainly does not seem to apply to you

Good luck, and I still hope to receive some comments on my post just above yours and the following page:

Thanks!!!

Thank you for your input Ilka_tu!

I will change it immediately. My hesitation has been about the risk of losing local interest.

Your plans look beautiful! I think it’s a really smart idea to get people interested from the start. Good luck with your new business!

facebook actually provides a “see translation” option on posts for at least some languages when I visit facebook pages that are not in the visitor’s language. So I can read posts like this:

Nu är det snart bara en månad kvar tills vi förhoppningsvis får ett friskt föl efter denna fina hingst! Väntad stam; Belissimo - Weltmeyer - Glücksstern. See translation

Haftenkamp 2012

which becomes:

Nu är det snart bara en månad kvar tills vi förhoppningsvis får ett friskt föl efter denna fina hingst! Väntad stam; Belissimo - Weltmeyer - Glücksstern. Now it’s only a month left until we hopefully will get a healthy foals after this fine Stallion! Expected strain; Belissimo-Weltmeyer-Glücksstern. (Translated by Bing)

Haftenkamp 2012

My Swedish is limited to a few words that I learned from my maternal grandparents. I understood “Nu är det”, but would have been lost after that if not for facebook’s partnership with Bing for translations.

I want to stress the opposite as well. I notice a lot of individuals that post most of their pictures to their personal page and forget about their farm page. I am connected to some farm owners personally (fwiw some of you are pretty funny in real life) but I do try to limit my “friends” to people I actually know - I am sure most people that don’t really know me don’t care about my dogs or my husband’s fishing or my drama over my job…

ANYWAY, remember to update your farm page, especially with your sale horses and baby pictures, we want to see.

Dawn, sadly the quality of these translations is horrendous… so by leaving it to an automatic translator to interpret a page, you’re setting yourself up for some trouble (or laughter as some of the translations are hilarious!) - I guess that’s not a reaction one would hope for, so best bet is to put a bit of effort into it and provide an English version alongside a local language version. Especially since so many things don’t translate well and your English version may very well be quite different from the one in the local language!
Excessive posting, yes. Occasional posting, no–for example, when you have a new sale horse.
Yes… OMG or if you post once a week about the sales that is fine also. There is one that is posting EVERY SINGLE DAY all of the horses and no I think they got some clue because it isn’t quite as bad. They also comment on their photos over and over again
