Like yellowbritches I basically save my white pads for shows and clinics and uss black or colored ones for schooling and regular lessons. Also, the white ones get washed in OxiClean pretty much any time they’re used and I’ll spot treat boot stains with Shout or something similar.
I know this is more geared to keeping them white after they’re dirty, but on the front side I use scotchguard on them. It really seems to help and they don’t get as dark or stained.
For those of you who use oxyclean with a front load washer- do you put it in with the laundry? I tried putting it once in the fabric softener dispenser and it was just hard clumps after the load was done (with regular detergent in the detergent dispenser and nothing in the bleach dispenser). Should I put it in with the clothes or in another dispenser or is there a liquid version of oxyclean that I have not seen?

I put it in the drum before I put in the laundry and just shake it down in the holes of the drum. If it is a little clumpy you may need to use your hand to break it up to fit through the holes.
I use oxyclean in every load of laundry.

I just dump the powder scoops right in the washer, I don’t use a dispenser.
There is a liquid OxyClean version that I use more often because I wash in cold water, and the powder doesn’t seem to dissolve as well.
Add a cup of hydrogen peroxide to the final rinse cycle of your load. Like others, I suggest NOT bleaching, as it will certainly yellow, as well as rot the stitching and/or velcro.
I have found with my new washing machine I have to choose a “deep water wash” setting- the newer machines are designed to use as little water as possible, but that’s no good for something like a pad that doesn’t smush down completely when wet like a shirt or pair of pants does. Also, my show pads are for showing only- and I try to make sure my horse is super clean when I use them. This makes a huge difference, no matter how much I wash my schooling pads they’re not getting WHITE white anymore. Show pads are stored in a plastic zipper bag in my show trunk so they aren’t soaking in dust when not in use. Once they get to where I don’t think they’re show worthy anymore, they rotate to become schooling pads and I get a new show pad.
