How far do most fox hunters travel for the weekly hunts?

I have been hunting since 1971. From my house to prepping the horse and getting to the meet, never less than 2.5 hours. These days I am 6 hours from the closest meet but I get my hunting fix now and then. I embrace being crazy.

I’m half an hour away from most of our fixtures, and even that’s because I joined the second closest hunt to our house. The average commute will vary hugely with what part of the country you look at. There are probably 6 hunts within an hour of me, and if we pretend DC traffic does not exist there would be even more.

Oh wow, I’m impressed with the distances you guys travel.

I just looked at our draft hunt card, and the furthest I would need to travel is 81 kms (50 miles).

I would be looking at several hours travel if I was to go and do a hunt week out of the region.

I’m in Oklahoma, and drive 3.5 hours ONE WAY for my hunt. I get up at 4:15 in order to make a 10:00 meet. It’s a long day, but our hunt is fantastic and I look forward to it all week!

I am spoiled rotten. Mine is about 15 minutes away. I can actually see it from my house.

BUT to my credit, this weekend I am driving 11 hours each way with a group to go visit another hunt! Road trip!
