We increased the time to 30 seconds, once an hour. Still more flies than I’m happy with. I bought some baits, they’re kind of working.
For those questioning my management, we clean the stalls twice daily and pick the paddocks close to the barn once daily. Manure is immediately removed to the compost pile, located 500 feet away from the barn. (Ironically, no flies there) Grass paddocks are harrowed and mowed.
- A good portion of my fly spray blows outside. Florida barns aren’t very enclosed.
- My neighbors on all sides have cattle and horses. I have my own flies and theirs too.
- For the first time I also have flies outside in the paddocks. Other summers they’ve only been in the barn.
