It is simply not worth it to put the barn up yourself. If one of you gets hurt, then the effects could be devastating. Also, the extra time to do this, and the potential to screw it up is not worth it either. So find someone to do it for you, and sit on the porch drinking tea while they put the kit together.
Growing up, my family was always DIY everything. So when we moved to the country, we did build our pole barn ourselves. We didn’t use a kit, just bought things at the hardware store. It was built in stages, and started out about 12x24 feet and was very, very tall with a full loft that I was terrified to go into. It with build with the idea that wings would be added to the sides to create a center aisle barn, if needed. Only one wing has made it on so far though.
It was hard, and it took months of weekend work to finish. Because it was so tall my dad ended up hiring a crew to finish the roof. The addition was done totally by my dad though, with only one person occasionally helping him.
Honestly, it wasn’t so hard though that I would never do it again. Certainly not by myself though. My whole family was the team, two knowledgeable adults, two teenagers, and often a random friend or two helping. But overall, I think people are capable of a lot more than they realize. Keeping in mind the limitations of how much they could lift (no machinery involved), what the standard sizes of lumber are, and including someone who’s crazy about things being straight.
I think at this point, my main issue would be annoyance at how slow things would move. Hiring someone else makes it done in a flash, doing it myself, everything seems to move in slow motion.
