I’m feeding him alfalfa hay that’s $12 a bale in the stall at night and he goes through a bale in two days and fescue hay in turnout during the day and hes still loosing weight. He also gets coolstance 6lbs a day, the coolstance is $40 a bag
Not trying to be snarky at all, but that really doesn’t strike me as a huge amount of money for a hard keeper - especially given that you’re boarding with a relative.
On the other hand, I really would be a bit worried if my horse was visibly losing weight on this diet.
I’d never heard of Cool Stance, so I looked it up. The recommended serving per day for a performance horse in medium work is 4.4 pounds, and your horse is apparently getting 6. If he’s really eating half a bail of alfalfa and half a bail of grass hay as well, there’s clearly something a bit off here.
If it was me, I’d get the vet out, but, again, that’s money . . .
Sadly, horses are not cheap.
I have him on gastromend for ulcers , the vet mentioned that he might have them, my horse probley only eats one or two flakes of the hay in the pasture during the the day, the other horse is a hay vacume and eats most of it, he eats his hay slow and is super picky
Goodness - there’s new info added every 2 minutes.
Ulcers can certainly cause weight loss, so it would be worth your while to find out for sure.
If so, he really should have a constant supply of decent, palatable hay in front of him at all times, rather than having tons of high calorie food over night and almost nothing during the day. Luckily, this type of feeding would probably be cheaper too.

So we’re back to your issues with the property-owning relative, who (understandably enough) doesn’t want to founder his own fat pony with free choice hay.
Any hope that you could divide the paddock in half?
I asked them if they could fence off a separate area for my horse so he can eat his hay and they wont, they said there horse does fine how its setup already, so if there horse is fine i guess my horse should be fine to is there mindset
Can you afford to move to a more suitable barn? I would, but I don’t know your situation.
You have my sympathy in any event.
The only Boarding barn in the area with a riding arena is $1200 a month which is way more then i can afford, the only other option is a pasture with no place to ride
