How is this legal? 4 y/o showing 4th level

I’m sorry, but

LOL of the two of us, I’m the one who is steady and reads the directions and wants to go slow and do it right, once, but when I’m done I’m LOUD and Effy. He’s this weird mix of “I’ll half ass this job with boundless optimism but the moment I stub my toe I’m going to whine like a hungry puppy.” Just a slightly volatile combination at times

Oh I feel your pain here. What appears to be so simple is a colossal PITA.

Wow, that would be great. I know nothing about it… but I can put you in touch with Sue Bender, outgoing Region 3 Director, and Charlotte Trentelman, the incoming director. Send me a pm with your contact info and I’'ll send you an email.

I have to do this and thanks to explanation of your totally horrid day, I will most certainly pay someone to do it. I don’t think my 93 yo mom will be much help. I hope today is better :innocent:

@Djones - OMG do I feel your pain. I used to say the fastest way to divorce was a DIY remodel! Glad it all worked out in the end.

Not stirring pot here ( I hope) but I’m somewhat puzzled a couple posts in this vein. So first, as we know, the seller was outted, both here and to USEF. There is a paper trail for USEF to follow in their review because the info is on the entries.
But it seems to me the seller removing the 4th level info from the ad was the rational thing to do, and may not have been meant to hide the rule violation in hopes of not getting caught. Only other option was to leave ad as it was and include “P.S. I know I violated a rule, waiting for USEF to hand down punishment So sorry”

She had been questioned and then eventually called out by multiple people (not me, I’ve never interacted with this person on social media) and had been deleting comments about the age violation on her ads for quite a while before I contacted usef and then finally posted here. It wasn’t until this thread really took off that all the ads magically got updated. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Maybe it’s because usef contacted her. No idea.

The horse is now being advertised at $50k - flyers around the arena at WEC. I still think that’s steep. He is showing in age appropriate classes this weekend.

It is so awkward. The old one was 20 years old and HEAVY. The cords were positioned differently so we had to cut a new hole in the cabinet above it. The hangers were different, too. They tell you that it takes two people. They aren’t lying!

$50k seems in line with a nice quality youngster with a show record in the current market. Would it seem as steep if he was a WB?

I’m seeing some seriously uninspiring horses go for $20-30k right now locally who are not as talented or do not have the same record. If a 5-6 y/o going Novice eventing can command $50k I’m thinking a 4 y/o with solid basics and clear potential could go for that or more.

This was in my head even before I got to your line.

And only Thurs and Fri, not all 4 days, 1 test per day (I have the ride times schedule, lol. ) So seems also an age-appropriate workload. Maybe I will watch the Friday ride.

Okay, I got sucked in and looked at the Facebook page! I agree, the test is very nicely presented, and definitely looks like an attractive prospect…

But her whole page is weird, tests aside. It looks like there are just repeated posts for the same horse, over and over again. No comments, and no comments allowed unless you follow the page for 24 hours. Her website is mostly eventing-oriented and a bit rough around the edges.

It could be just a very, very young pro with little guidance, even though the horses and her riding look very polished (all things considered, i.e. she shouldn’t have entered in the first place).

Prior to this thread, people were commenting and she deleted those comments and set up the limited commenting.

Overall, my read is that it looks like someone with a nice horse who is a nice rider but who perhaps struck out on her own as a business a little bit too soon.

I would pay $50k for a four year old of any breed that moves for an 8+ at all gaits and could win a national-level four year old test. I just don’t see it in that horse. He is kind, he is game, he tries, and is athletic. He’s a nice horse. He doesn’t have the gait quality I look for in a horse at that price level. Just my opinion.

To other people, his attitude and brain might make him worth $50k.

That would be an interesting spin off - what is your wish list for $50k and what are you willing to compromise on?

Wish list

  • no younger than 6, no older than 16
  • plenty of mileage at shows, on trails, off property, etc.
  • SOUND
  • Easy to sit (PRE or Luso easy, not warmblood easy lol)
  • straightforward ride with confirmed, fluid, easy single change
  • strength, balance, suppleness appropriate for Third Level
  • Unflappable temperament
  • ability to move up the levels
  • good engine, not lazy

Willing to compromise on or don’t care about:

  • Age
  • Breed
  • Colour
  • Show record
  • light maintenance
  • level of training if good work ethic and safe
  • minor medical issues not affecting soundness
  • minor vices such as cribbing
  • Quality of gait. Doesn’t need to trot for a 9, doesn’t need CDI potential

My wish list? A lottery win so I’d have 50k to spend on a horse.
