How long after a fall do you see a dr ? (lingering pain)

We have a walk in orthopedic clinic about half hour away. Anything like that close by? Much more effective than regular ER or urgent care. If you need follow up, everything is right there. May have made a visit in the last two months after my young one had a bout of spring fever. Let’s just say, I’m pretty sure it’s a meniscus tear. Supposed to have MRI but my husband is ill so he comes first right now.
I would definitely get checked out!

I walked around with a BROKEN BACK for 6 weeks before I went to the doctor. I was only 24 and dumb. Don’t be like me…go get it checked out. If nothing else, they can give you better pain meds to help you sleep (which is all they could have done for me, but boy, would that have been worth it!)

I’m not sure I’d call it “lucky” that my ankle doc will get me in within a week if I call with a problem. The reason this happens is that he’s done surgery on my feet & ankles five times. When you’re on that list, they see you quick.

I’m also wondering if you don’t have an urgent care around. They are essentially my primary care. I may have to wait an hour after I get there, but at least I don’t have to deal with some miserable wench of a nurse on a power trip when I’m there.

Your local urgent care doesn’t do appointments? I was so pleased to find that mine does. I’ve been there twice, first because I had cellulitis and did not yet have a primary care doc, and the second time because I had cellulitis, and couldn’t get in to see my primary care doc anyway, even though I was an established patient by then. I get cellulitis if you look at me hard. It sucks. I’m glad I have a great urgent care nearby. The two times I made appointments there, I was able to get same day. It’s been a while, so I don’t know if that’s still true.

It’s kind of the same situation as the nearby lab–I always make appointments, and I get glared at by all the people waiting when I waltz right past them. But their website does encourage appointments. Unfortunately, the lab has gotten so busy that I recently made an appointment, and the soonest I could get was mid July. Good thing it was a routine round of testing. I used to be able to get a same day or next day appointment. Wish I still could.

It might. I don’t plan that far a head. I’ve never had a problem getting called back, but once or twice, they’ve been slammed and it took a while. They did appreciate that I understood that dealing with the person who should have gone to the ER was a higher priority than whatever problem I had.

I was so impressed last week with the Urgent Care clinic which we can almost see from the barn. Its at the local hospital and is right next to the ER, which was handy when the PA who was treating me realized she was out of her depth and was able to run over and get a more experienced doctor. $70 copay vs. $500 at the ER, no wait and a decent cafe where DH could go hide out so he didn’t have to watch the gory bits.

I have no desire to become a frequent client, however.

I loved both the MD and the PA I saw at the local urgent care. I called them when I was looking for a PCP and asked if that doctor also did private practice. Nope, his entire gig is urgent care. That’s great when I need something there, but I think he would have made a great PCP.

It depends on who you see. Emergency room or urgent care is best or on a good day a specialist will squeeze you in. When I broke my ankle I went to the ER and they just took X-rays, splinted me and told me I needed a specialist.

A foot/ ankle surgeon who had their own clinic was kind enough to take me the next morning.
