How many horses have you ridden in your life?

Are you checking off “Denny’s list” ?

I can’t begin to remember them all, but I’m way over 100. Like many others, as a teen and young adult I would get on anything that came into the barn where I boarded. The 1st barn where I boarded had an owner who went to the local auction every Sat. night, and always bought a trailer full. Rarely knowing any background on these horses, there were 2of us that would test ride. Fun times!

No where near 100. Maybe 30+?

Over 100, easily. The vast majority were in my youth, when i rode at a lesson barn, and rode a lot of ponies. I did do a count about 10 years ago. I could probably add another 15 or 20 to that list. It’s interesting to think about.

Probably 15 lesson horses my first 5 years of riding, 25 as a paid starter of young horses, the 10 I’ve actually owned, and various other rides (working student, Pony Club, etc), probably puts me right around 100.

I’ve competed on only about 10-11, in various horse sports (about 6 eventing).

merph I bet I can name almost all of them (and that’s saying a lot because I can’t name all the guys I’ve swung a leg over and there haven’t been many of those lol)

Midnight, Pumpkin, Magic, Summer (first pony I fell off of, and then we couldn’t catch the little bugger), Apple (she ran way with me at the trot… a lot), Blue, an Appy/QH with HYPP, Piglet, Leo (first horse I cantered on, it was more of a tranter as he was drop-hipped and would trot behind), Rambo, Lark, Mayo, Sonny, Berkeley, Dandy, Silver, Tiny Bubbles, Solo, Danny, Tex, Chip T, Harry, Harriet, Betty/Summer (same horse two different owners years apart), Omera, Wishes (demon pony from hell), Sienna, Jake, Cooley, some TB/Paint looking thing that didn’t stay in the barn long, Jig, Luka, Lucky, Hope, Issac, Court, Breeze, Limerick, Woody Allen (imported from Germany with that name), Cameron (our first horse), Schmuckles (not sure what kind of horse name that was), Cheyenne, Marva, Ricochet, 6 semesters of IHSA I remember the name of a big chestnut named JC, Elmo (bit someone so badly she had to go to the ER), Nugget, a half crazy pinto jumper, Blueberry, Ladylike, Monty, Ace (more like “needed Ace”), Milano, Brandy (my pony!), Sulli, Dallas, Pockets (liked to buck), Iris, Ice (all 18 hands of him and I’m only 5’3"), Leanndi, Sprinkles, Wiley, Ladybug, Ruby, Regan, Poshe (dumped me in her evaluation ride in a dirty manner), Quin (my current horse!), Beyonca, Gracie, Mister Belle (big), Don Baby (bigger), Smidge (ginormous)… I think that’s it. 72 plus the other IHSA horse show horses and some mountain trail ride horses. Not bad for 17 years of riding and only being 25. Pretty sure I’ve made it to 100.

More than 101. I started the list as a teen, so perhaps a few slipped through and didn’t make it on there. My rules are that I ride the horse independently (no lead line rides etc) and at least walk for a minute. Some of those horses I rode once, and some I rode for years. I don’t show, so I have competed zero.

Can’t really remember, but I’m guessing in the 50-100 range. When I was a kid, I worked at a trail ride barn and guided or rode tail when we took people out. There were around 20 horses and we rode whichever ones were not being used for customers. I had my own horse as a teen that I also rode. During college, I did some occasional trail rides( we had sold my horse when I went to college) After college, I rented trail horses some and also got the occasional ride with friends. When I moved to Va, I took lessons on school horses for a few years and then bought my own horse. Since then I have had my own horses and very infrequently have ridden other horses.

I’ve going to say close to 100. I got my start at big lesson barns and there was always a large number to ride. Plus I was able to find rides at other barns. Then there was college (holy horse heaven, batman!). Much fewer since then, but still a decent number. It helped that I didn’t get my own horse until I was over 30.

I think I’m around 30-40. I didn’t really start riding until 13 years ago. I rode a fairly large number when I was at my first lesson barn and first started out riding dressage. In the last 5 years or so I didn’t have much time to ride so I rode my own mare and maybe 2 others. In the last 8 months I’ve ridden 9 different horses.

Of all of the horses I’ve ridden, I’ve had multiple rides on maybe half of them and have only competed 6 of them.

I wish I could remember all of their names. I can’t remember the earlier ones (like that flea bitten grey arabian beginner horse or the chestnut I took one jumping lesson on).

Wow, what a bunch of horse sluts!

And I am definitely one as well. I only bought my first horse two years ago after 25 years of riding anything I could swing a leg over, with a four or five year break during my mid 20’s.

That includes over 12 years riding and showing at a h/j barn, two years in a riding program in college, several summers teaching and riding in summer camps, plus at least two or three long-term “barn jobs” where I was able to ride as well.

So I haven’t a clue, but probably well over 100. Competed probably around 25-ish?

The funny part is, for the last 3 years, I’ve only ridden my horse, with the exception of hopping on my friend’s mare once this summer. I am finally monogamous

Of those that I remember, about 30-50. I’m only 20 and never lived in horsey areas so didn’t have the opportunity to be a working student, etc. and my parents are NOT horse people either. It’s funny, I don’t remember all the horses names, but I remember what every one taught me, since I rode most of them for extended periods of time. It’s fun to look back! I have 3 now and I’m happy w/ that…actually might be down to 2 soon.

Total horse slut here - lost count at 278. Mom and Dad never bought me a horse, so lessons, catch riding, sales barns, a military career, etc - yeah, it adds up. I’m now happy to own two and they are different enough, it keeps me agile. But I never turn down a reasonable catch ride, though as I get older, I don’t test my velcro butt skills as readily as I once did!

I was thinking of this the other day actually…prob in the 150-200 range.
Lessons in a big barn as a kid, national capitol equitation league (with 3-5horses/show), exercise rider for a Master, pony club, greenies, friends, clients, my own… List goes on.

And every one of them taught me something, even if it was cumulative

I’m 62 and been riding/training for at least 42 of those years and then count in the ponies, ect I rode as a kid…Too many to count!

TMTC

I actually started making a list as a kid and have kept up with it! At #134 now. Unfortunately I’m in grad school now, so not adding on to my number quite like I used to.
