How many pairs of breeches do you own?

LOL I should show my DH this thread to make him realize I’m really not that bad!

I ride 5 days a week, one horse, and I don’t show anymore so no more white breeches or tall boots for me, YAY!

I am now down to 9 pairs of breeches. A while ago I rummaged through my stuff and donated all the breeches I didn’t wear/like and were still in good shape.

2 winter breeches (Kerrits)
3 ribbed Tuff Riders (full seat, knee patch, and knee patch boot cut)
1 full seat Ariat pull on
1 Winter Pro boot cut
1 ribbed cotton corduroy full seat (can’t find the brand on it)
1 denim boot cut

Well, went to the tack store over my lunch break yesterday to get replacement stirrup pads and work boots for this winter and low and behold they had breeches on sale. Add a pair of Kerrits schooling tights with a large cell phone pocket to my list. I’m so stoked about having a cell pocket (first pair of breeches I’ve ever had this with).

:frowning: Please don’t make me count.
Nowhere near the 70-80 someone posted , but I do have some real antiques.
*Black DerbyDress kneepatch circa 1980-something that are - amazingly - still quite wearable even though stitching on the patches is starting to go & the suede itself is worn nearly smooth
*Beige all cotton twill with poofy hips & buttons at the knees - cannot even guesstimate how old these might be
*Various & sundry beigeish kneepatch models worn to show in the late 80s-90s - I could never bring myself to get white, the closest I came is a very light canary

Younger models - all kneepatch, I do not go for fullseats  - are:
*a couple pair of heavyweight Dublin tights - bought on sale from Dover(?) near 15yrs ago - khaki & near-TS-pukegreen
*Navy Romphs
*Navy Eppeljeck < bought in Holland

Newbies:
*French blue from Dover - with the new trendified sock bottoms, but not all the way to the calf, TG, as I seldom ride in tall boots. Paddocks are my Go To
*Gray from Dover ^ as above

So… a mere 10 pairs or so?

I think I have 7 or 8 pairs, all Pipers except one pair (which are honestly getting pretty ratty/worn out so I should toss them).

OK, thank you PNWJumper, for making me feel better about responding to this thread

I think I’ve got about a dozen pair of just “show” breeches–4 or 5 tan, a rust pair, 3 white full seats for dressage, 1 tan fullseat for dressage schooling shows, 2 pairs of blue fullseats for sidesaddle… The hazards of doing many things!

I have a lot more schooling breeches, but generally rotate through about half a dozen favorites–Tredstep Rosas, RJ Gulfs, a couple pair of the Hadleys. I have a few pair of Pipers that I hate the fit on but still wear occasionally, a few pairs of fullseats for dressage lessons, 3 or 4 pair of winter breeches/tights, a pair of fabulous corderoy Ariats that are great for fall, etc. Probably 20 or 30 total?

I would expect most competitors, multi discipliners, and/or trainers to own more than most! Nothing wrong with that

At least 15? all knee patch. I ride 1-3 horses 6-7 days a week though so they do see a LOT of use.
4-5 pairs of tan trophy hunters (show only)
~6 pairs of colored schooling trophy hunters (brown 2x, black, green, blue, purple)
2 pairs colored Smartpak Hadley for schooling
2 pairs colored Romfh Sarafina for schooling

The Romfh Sarafina and Smartpak Hadley are my favorites and I’m retiring the schooling trophy hunters as they wear out and replacing with those!

I also (somewhere) have 1-3 pairs of worn out Pipers (ick) and 2 pairs of Kerrits winter breeches (holes, have served me well).

way too many
20 I would say, not including white comp ones.
And because my weight seems to fluctuate, I need a spectrum of sizes
And of course because silicon seats came out, I needed comp and home breeches to jump in that are silicon…

A few of my older suede seat ones are very well worn though. I feel like I get my value out of them

Edited to say I ride 1 horse 4-5x a week (but it used to be 2)
I do wear all my breeches, honestly. I wouldnt keep any that I didnt wear. I dont do matchy matchy, I more do what fits right now.

Also silicon wears off quite quickly, so im not sure what I will do with them all when they have no silicon left!

Just to speak up for those of us who are different…

I ride a lesson horse, english, in breeches, 1x per week. I own TWO pair of breeches.

One pair of rather baggy “Royal Highness” breeches from the VTO $20 bin
One pair of heavyweight but not winterized “On Course” Knee-patch breeches bought at the Middleburg Tack Exchange. Love them, but I’ve about worn the seat seam out of them so I have to replace them.

I’m getting myself a new pair of winter weight breeches for Christmas.

I own three pairs of riding tights. I think they are Cotton Naturals, or maybe Tuff Riders. Two are black and one is grey. I don’t show, and ride 2-3x per week, now only at the walk on retired adorable fat senior pony. I have had these breeches for 15 years. Every so often I sew up a hole where a seam has given out below the zipper or in the crotch. It kind of bugs me that the fabric in the crotch and upper thigh is worn so thin as to be getting alittle risky, whereas the rest of the material looks brand new. It seems like a waste to have to get rid of the whole item when it’s only the crotch that is at all worn.

On the other hand, it is important to stimulate the economy…

I think I’m in the 20+ range…all Pikeurs (They fit me the best and last forever). Some I have had for years and are still holding up at least for schooling.

I have probably a dozen. I don’t need that many as I have one horse and ride at most 6 days a week. I told myself I absolutely don’t need any more and then somehow ended up buying a pair last night on FB because they are such a cool color. I have an impulse control problem…

I just bought another pair of Pipers because I liked the color, too. You’re not alone with the impulse control issue. Haha!

I have the exact same problem with my On Course knee-patch breeches. I realized I have developed a hole in the seat in the back and don’t know if that can be repaired or not. I love these breeches for schooling and can’t find more. Do they still make them? Mine are old but they are indeed heavy-duty pull-ons, perfect for schooling. I hate to just throw them away.

1 pair of On Course Knee-patch pull-on breeches (see above)
2 pair of Tailored Sportsman ROYAL Hunter (that they don’t make anymore) that I found on consignment. Score!
1 pair of Kerrits fleece-lined winter breeches
1 pair of Sigma knee-patch that I don’t think are even made anymore that have developed a hole in the crotch area. I’m hoping a tailor can repair the hole because these breeches wear like iron.

3kerrits tights for hot weather, 5 pair Tuffrider ribbed knee patch for schooling and they are at least 10 years old…indestructible; 3 knit pipers for schooling shows and white cavallos (2) for dressage snhows

Probably 20-25 pairs.
3-4 pairs that I really don’t like and should just get donated
7 pairs of showing breeches–beige and white–Animo and Equiline
Colored nice breeches for schooling at shows and clinics
10+ pairs for everyday schooling–animo, kingsland, Romph
Beloved pikeur winter breeches

It’s a weakness and I have no shame

Now that people with “a lot” have responded I’ll chime in . Doing this from memory so I might be off a bit…

4 beige TS reserved for showing
1beige TS, 2 Goode Rider, 5 colored TS, 2 Gersemi, 1 Piper, 4 Kingsland, 1 older Smartpak style (bradley I think?), 1 Hadley, 1 aussie brand, 1 Equine Couture

Umm… I think that’s it? 23 ish? I basically buy everything on sale or second hand though, and I sell pairs that fall out of rotation. I have 1 horse and ride 4 times a week.

So many brands out there these days that I want to try! It’s so hard restraining myself but I literally am not able to justify any more at the moment!

lol I have at least four more pairs of breeches (or tights) than I should, as they are something like three years past being due for the trash. but I LOVE THEM and they fit JUST RIGHT so no I will not throw them away - holey knee patches and all.

That said the numbers here make me feel much better about myself. Shout out to you all for assisting me in feeling like a sane person. I appreciate you all tremendously.

I have some Kerrits that have held up staggeringly well. Iridion fleece tights for winter. Horze is a nice option.

For fit, durability, and longevity, my pikeur pair wins hands down. That said, I’m cheap and won’t buy them unless there’s a screaming deal.

To all who have thanked me -

  1. I live to enable

  2. If this thread is any indication, it’s clear that it’s time to disconnect the words “might be” from “hoarder”
