This looks like a thread for me! I am obsessed with breeches. I’ve been riding on and off my whole life so I have quite a few old ones too. In this list I am only counting breeches that I currently own, fit, and are wearable.
3 Fouganza- very basic cheap cotton pairs. I got them when riding in Europe one summer years ago and I didn’t want to ship breeches over or spend a lot of money. They’re comfortable for wearing around the barn (feel like leggings) but I hate riding in cotton and they are self patch which i also hate so these are basically barn work/hanging around pants when I’m not planning to ride, or for trails.
1 Devon Aire-Pull on schooler, very old probably got them in highschool, still fit but they are basically barn work/trail riding pants now.
1- Irideon Issential tights- Also got these when I was in highschool, have some pulls and holes but I still ride in them. These are pretty much summer only. I keep meaning to get another pair as they are nice but since they are so basic and kind of “boring” I tend to buy more fun pants instead. Maybe I will buy some when the old ones finally bust. I kind of feel like Irideon is a bit thicker than kerrits and doesn’t show imperfections like cellulite as bad.
1- Kerrits icefil fullseat- Just got these so not much to say yet. I don’t have many summer riding pants and its been blistering so I ordered some the other week.
2 -Horseware tights-The mesh ones, I also just got these with the Kerrits order so haven’t worn them much yet. They are basically built like a workout pant, very comfortable. The knee patches are a light, thin micro suede like material, which is nice and light/cool for the summer but I don’t know how well thats going to hold up, feels kind of delicate.
1- Noble outfitters- balance tight with silicone knee patches. Love these, they are basically spanx for riding. They smooth everything out. The material is kind of thick though so I don’t wear these on super hot days. I want to get some more if I find them on sale.
1-Ariat sport side zip show breech- These are also from years ago, I wore them when I rode hunters. They still fit and still in good shape, they are just schooling breeches now.
1-piper kneepatch-not my favorite, not crazy about the fit and the fact I have to size up 2 sizes with pipers. Also the material is not super durable, it pills, stretches out, fades. They do have very pretty color combinations though so are tempting when they are having sales on them, I think I got this pair on clearance for $35. I have to stop myself from buying pipers because they are pretty and cheap, but I know I don’t really like them.
1-Hadley knee patch- Like these much more than pipers. I am planning to get another pair or 2 when a color I like shows up. So light, stretchy and comfortable.
1-FITS Performax full seat front zip-Haven’t had these long but they are super comfortable and basically feel like wearing pajamas. Also very flattering on my short legged and fluffy self. A bit on the warmer side so I haven’t been wearing them in the heat.
1-Tailored Sportsman-Vintage patch mid rise in french blue. Very pretty but not my favorite. The only pair on this list I paid full price for because TS is never on discount. I used to wear the old school no stretch show breeches back in the day for hunters so when I got back into riding I was kind of curious how these newer ones with stretch are and everyone raves about them. I mean they’re nice, but they don’t fit me as well and don’t seem as nice of quality (or have the range of designs) as the Euro brands below which I can find for far cheaper than TS on European sites. So when it comes down to it i’d rather just buy Pikeur.
2-Equiline- Cedar full seat and Ash knee patch. Love everything about them except that they run small. Similar in fabric and construction to Pikeur, but cut a bit different. Very comfortable and flattering also nice quality. I am always on the look out for these on sale on european sites but since they run so small and I have to size up, my size is not that common and hard to find.
1-Samshield- The clothilde model. Freaking LOVE these, they are so flattering and comfortable. They are thin and very stretchy, feel like wearing a second skin. Great for the summer. I absolutely want more but they are hard to find on sale and usually still pricey. Not sure how durable they will turn out to be, I haven’t had them that long yet. The quality is nice they are just thinner and more delicate than other breeches in this price range.
4-Pikeur- 2 prisca, and a ciara and lucinda. By far my favorite brand. So many styles, great quality and comfort, actually seem to fit my weird shaped body pretty well and usually have my size. I have a huge list I want to get but I wait until they are on clearance.
Thats 21 pairs…if I didn’t forget any. Kind of embarrassing considering I am currently only riding once a week, not competing (but planning to go back into it), and don’t currently have a horse or lease. I am planning to ride more often again in the future so that is kind of my justification…stock up on the clothes now before I have a horse to feed lol!
I never pay full price (unless I have a giftcard and even then I don’t like to) and I love hunting for breeches on clearance that happen to be my size. Thats why I have so many when I don’t actually need them, because I enjoy the bargain hunt so much! Also I just enjoy trying a lot of different brands. I am very curious about romfh, animo and cavallo at the moment.
