How much does lameness exam and X-rays of fronts cost you?

Having seen some video I am now comfortable with not having to X-ray at this stage.

She maybe stiff, rest, make sure she is warm, get the chiropractor and massage therapist on her. Wondering about a BOT blanket for her.

Well, I dunno, how much will that cost in comparison to having a vet check that may or may not result in xrays? Around here, chiro is $75-150. Massage therapist is $100-150. BOT mesh sheet is what, $200?

Well I am not seeing anything in her feet, so not sure how many X-rays we might need of where. So could get pricey. I know she needs chiro/massage I can feel where she is holding tension. $120 for that. Dedicated massage if needed, only $40! BOT. Sheet not decided on.

She is currently on 10 days down time, going to see what she is like when she starts again. Not ruling anything out, or in…but wait and see in this case is not a bad option. I can be more hands on with her now i’m Mobile,so will be able to see her in person rather than relying on videos.

If you’re suspecting feet I’d be talking to the best farrier I could find first, then going down the vet road, hopefully with all in conversation with each other. On more than one occasion my farrier has spotted issues brewing before the rest of us, and we were able to treat and diagnose much more efficiently with his help.

I am always a fan of doing the diagnostics as soon as possible, because it’s great to be able to look at x-rays from 3 years ago and say “nope, that definitely wasn’t there in 2015”. Sometimes you waste a bit of money, but most of the time you find something or another.

And just to agree with many of the other comments, that’s pretty much in line with what I’d expect to pay, depending where in Canada you are, and just so many x-rays you might need.
In BC my bills look like this:
$50-100 farm call (depending on how many split it)
$150 lameness exam with flexions (I believe it’s $100 without flexions)
$50 x-ray set up fee
$50 per x-ray view (mine have never been lumped into $x for front feet, but it seems logical as well)
$40-60 for sedation and administration
$175 for ultrasounds

I’ve just opened my bill from last week–farm call, lameness exam, nerve block, 4 x rays of front feet, consult with farrier to correct shoeing. $212.00. This is in Utah.

Wow that’s inexpensive! Same for me, plus a shot of osphos, was $1000… www.quepeñaforme.com :frowning:

I need to move !

He is very reasonable, and very good. Of course it means I’ll have him back for a follow up appointment the week before the farrier is next due, and he’ll do more x-rays. and it’ll cost more or less the same again, but still!
