How to cut stall mats

I found that if you curl the left over up the wall then you don’t need to cut and when your horse makes a quick spin in the stall the mats do not shift. Every one of the mats we cut at some point in time have shifted but the ones I didn’t cut stay in place…my stalls are 12 x 10.

Hands down a variable speed jigsaw. You get a very clean cut and the cutting speed is easy to control. You will need to elevate the mat close to your intended cut(s). I just put some scrap 2 X 4s under the entire length of the cut with the mat laying on the ground. Use a silver Sharpie to mark your cuts. BTW, the easiest way to move those heavy mats is with a 3" or bigger C clamp. Save your money–don’t buy those plastic “mat movers”–they’re worthless!

To move mats, we use these double C-visegrips:

If we need to drag them far, we run a lead rope or chain thru it to pull better, or use a long hay hook with a handle.
The trick is in using those clamps, gives a greater purchase on the mats.
Two per mat edge and we drag 4’ x 8’ 3/4" heavy mats around with ease.
