Some vets spay with the cat on their side so the scar may be near her flank.
The ultrasound sounds best to me.

I never knew they removed the uterus, I thought they just took the ovaries. Good to know.

Sad thing is, here it is cheaper to spay than to ultrasound! A uterus/ovaries on an intact female that is not in heat (or pregnant) is not obvious on most ultrasounds. A very skilled ultrasonographer would be needed.
However, shaving is a must for ultrasounds…and if you see a scar + no obvious uterus/ovaries than you are likely on your way out of the woods
