How'd you get started?

I was born with the disease, “Horse-itis”. I can’t think of when the symptoms began, probably because it happened so early. I do recall my dad putting me on a black pony at the Los Angeles County Fair when I was only 4. But my grandmother, a horsewoman, had already indoctrinated me to horses by then. It was hopeless.

My mom put me on a horse when I was 6 months old. But I lived in the suburbs of San Jose, and it wasn’t until I was eight that I started lessons. My birthday present that year was 8 riding lessons. I was totally hooked and have been doing it since.

I was just thinking about the first time I got interested in horses. I was about 3 years old at a local county fair, and my aunt took me over to the pony rides. Well, they put my on the pony and I started SCREAMING bloody murder. Then the horse started to move, the tears stopped, and I said “oh, this is fun.” And I’ve been hooked on horses ever since. So I was wondering…How’d you all get interested in horses?

~Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experiance.~

My parents rode (Mom who is 86 still does) so I started, um, in utero…

I was three and we were visiting my mother’s family in England. Her cousin’s daughters had an enormous bay horse in their own back yard (of course, my perspective was different then; perhaps he wasn’t quite the behemoth I remember )

Imposing yet very friendly, he extended his velvet nose for me to pat. I was so impressed that such a wonderful animal existed and that these girls had one of their very own. They swung me up on his back and let me “ride” him. I’ll always remember it. I’ve been in love with horses ever since.
