How's the footing at Tryon?
We were lucky with the weather too as it didn’t pour rain as it often does. Time will tell if they can manage the footing if that happens.

I think the most important thing we can all do as competitors is to tell the horse show management and fill out the footing evaluations. I think sometimes competitors are complaining or decide afterwards not to come back but horse show management have no idea.
Very good point. I will definitely do that from here on out.

Well since Bellissomo owns both Tryon and this magazine - hopefully he has been made aware people are having issues and will try and fix it.

One would hope but it never hurts to add your voice just in case the message is just not getting through.

Not to hijack, but what is the new footing at HITS Ocala?

.

Anyone look at numbers for Tryon this past week? Only one large pony, one SS, 2 Children’s/Adults, and four AO’s!!! Sedgefield A had healthy numbers.

I found my horse went very well on their footing. Before I went I had heard and read all about the concerns with the footing, so going in I was a bit worried. To each their own! My horse also has pour-in pads, so that might help.

Is it like the Silica they put in at TBird? It was specifically installed to deal with the amount of rain we get… lovely to ride on in a torrential downpour

I don’t do the big shows in the summer so I can’t comment on how it is in drier weather… knowing TBird they’re on top of it…

Not sure but heard it wasn’t GGT. It certainly has fiber in it but I guess some other brand and of course the mix of all the components is key too I’m sure. We’re sticking with our bluestone, rubber and sand at home. It’s glorious!

Thunderbird has amazing footing. Best I’ve ever ridden on in the GP field and the new silica rings. We are very very spoiled to live near there.

i showed on both their Silica and regular sand rings just over a week ago and they maintained all rings perfectly. It is the nicest of the silica I’ve ever jumped on and my horse did not stick or trip like he did at the one local to me (which is CGT)!! I ways thought it was meant for places that get a lot of rain, which Vancouver does but not for areas like Calgary which is dry as it needs to be kept wet (here it drys out fast and gets deep spots and they don’t seem to maintain enough in the small jumper ring)

I asked my farrier last night what he thinks of CGT and his immediate response “hate it, it kills feet and joints. Most places don’t need it unless they get a lot of rain! Once in a while is ok but imagine landing on that every single day!”

I have made my views on GGT pretty clear…not gonna lie, I’m back in the tack and medically cleared to show again, but not in any hurry to go show in that footing.

Looked like recycled carpet to me.

The new footing is a blend of felt and sand combined, providing both cushion and shock absorption across an even, consistent surface. This creates a superior competition environment. Thomas Struzzieri, HITS President and CEO noted, “Horse and rider should be confident in the footing they are riding on. Continually updating our competition surfaces makes it easier for the horse perform his job at the highest level.”

Sounds like same concept as GGT to me even if not same brand.

Yeah same concept but I would not say the fibers looked like felt at least as of December when they had rolls of it around and were in the process of redoing many rings.
