Hunt Bridle suggestions

Southern Yankee, please let us (me) know when you receive it. [/QUOTE]

I will! It’s going to be a few more weeks, apparently Bobby’s had a few quality control issues with their last batch of bridles so mine is back ordered and will ship in a few weeks. I can’t wait to get it, but I’m happy to see that they are keeping an eye on their quality. Plus waiting got me an additional 10% off  I’m just happy I ordered it with plenty of time before hound exercise starts.

I have a 5 point HDR and in my eyes the leather does not even compare to the quality of a Bobby’s.

Ok, here is the update:

My heavy duty flat Bobby’s hunt bridle came in and the leather is much heavier and thicker than the older standard one I have. The standard one fits my petite mare’s head wonderfully but my goon of a baby horse has a huge head and he needed something heavy and substantial to make his face appear smaller, he has a pretty head it’s just much larger than it appears. I really hope he doesn’t grow into considering he’s a big 16.1 4yo TBx??, but I have a feeling now that he is getting proper nutrition he’s going to jump to almost 17 hands…

The new leather isn’t as soft as I had hoped it would be right out of the box, but after a few oilings it is starting to soften up nicely. Structurally it is made with the quality I expected, the reason I wanted a Bobby’s specifically. I think it will only improve with age and once it gets sweaty, wet, muddy, cleaned often, and those steps repeated it’s going to melt in my hands.

Thank you SY  I think for a hunt bridle if the leather was too buttery soft it wouldn’t be durable enough to hold up to the rigors of the hunt field!

Bartville hands down. It isn’t just quality for that price… It’s flat out quality period.

Their sizing runs a bit small compared to most show bridles. My 15.3hh paint, and two 16.3hh thoroughbreds all wear the Bartville horse sized bridle on middle holes but the horse sized breastplate is too small. In show bridles horse sized is usually on the smallest holes and they fit into cob bridles on the longest.

The guys working there will tell you to go oversized on the breastplate for horses over 16hh. They will do custom anything and options of brass or nickel buckle or hook stud ends.

I have ordered one but was not that good.

There is a new saddlery launching, called Lund, and they have a line of Hunt Bridles, in very limited stock. If you message them and ask about the Hunt Bridle, they can tell you if/how to get it. I have a few Lund Bridles (snaffle and flash) and they are AMAZING quality. Much nicer than my KL Select…WAY nicer than Bobby’s, Vespucci etc. And price point is incredibly low for the quality (it’s English Sedgewick leather, very well-made and crafted too)

Find them on Facebook “Lund Saddlery” for now…

Here’s a pic (hope this works)
