Hunt Buttons?

Thank goodness our hunt buttons aren’t $18 each! They are silver coloured though - look very smart on our black jackets.

Some of my friends sew them on with fishing nylon to keep them on better.

Otterhound - the Dannevirke used to award colours, I’m not sure if they still do.

That’s interesting ganymede - had never heard of it over here! =)

I like scarlet in the field also, and I see no reason why it should be limited to staff. I think it looks lovely to have a sea of black and red in the field.

My hunt, WWH in Ontario, gives colours and buttons may be purchased by any member with colours. I haven’t bothered purchasing any, since I am heavily invested in horse flesh at the moment, and am saving pennies. I am very proud of my colours though, and was heartbroken that the first hunt after picking up my coat from the tailor’s, green and gold on the collar, was a rainy day and everyone was wearing slickers. I, not wanting to be soaked to the bone after what I knew was going to be at least a four hour hunt, wore my slicker and you couldn’t see my beautiful collar. That was closing meet and our only other byday after closing was snowed out.

Our buttons are very pricey too, I can’t remember how much but I remember thinking it was going to be over $50 just to get my front buttons done, not even sleeves.

GMH buttons are pewter and look beautiful against a black or scarlet coat. Only staff where scarlet in the field. So I guess that makes us out of the ordinary on both counts.

I do however, wholeheartedly endorse female staff to wear scarlets, because it’s so practical to be able to see your whippers in and also because it’s a great point of pride.[/QUOTE]

At my hunt neither the our whippers in, nor the female Masters wear scarlett. We have yet to have a problem identifiying them.
