My thong came with a can of beeswax. I clean it with a damp sponge or castille soap and apply beeswax.
BTW, my popper got torn off my thong. How do I fix thin little leather end part and reattach a new popper?
Never mind, I found a great picture guide “attaching popper to bullwhip fall” and it looks very simple. Duh!
Well, now, you also need to know how to make a popper out of baling twine…
For U.S. foxhunters, there was an excellent post on FOL some years back so one could search the archives there, I’m enjoying my wine too much just now to go looking. Come to think of it it’s probably discussed on this forum somewhere, I have never been able to master the search engine here though! Mike Murphy, BTW, also sent some very cool DVDs on how to use a whip. He’s the Australian National CH whip maker and Nat CH whip cracker. I think he sells the DVDs on his website. Anyone who wants to seriously impress their hunt with whipping skills, or has a talent show to fill, should check it out!
He was fun to talk to. He hunts on horseback in Australia, only for kangaroo. I invited him to ride out here if he is ever in the area.
He also sent a lovely DVD on whip braiding and care, although that was way over my head.
