Jane-

Does anyone have any experience with Jane Rohwer at Penryn Oak Stables?[/QUOTE]

Hey, I’ve been working with Jane for almost a year now, and i love the training i get from her. She mainly does dressage lessons now, but we have done some jumping and some equitation. She is an awesome trainer, she is very proper and takes it slow and makes sure you get everything out of your $50 bucks that you wanted. sometimes the lessons go way over an hour and she doesn’t charge extra. She also has many school horses to take lessons on if you don’t have your own.

Penryn Oaks is also kind of a hot spot for Patty and Sami’s girls who can’t afford the expensive boarding across the street. The plus at Penryn is that we have 4 arena’s 1 indoor and everyone is really relaxed and friendly. There are about 10 people, including me, that ride across the street to ride with Patty and Sami, saves at least $400 a month.

If your tight on $$ but still want a great trainer I recomend boarding at penryn and riding over for lessons or just ridding with Jane and Debi who are excelent trainers.

I don’t recomend Patriot Farms or Royal Oak.
Hope this helps!

Another vote for Patty Ball!

Patty is excellent. I met her through my trainer and used to haul in to her place from hours away a couple times a year with my nutty OTTB. She was always so gracious, friendly, and helpful.

She is absolutely a top notch teacher. I would have loved to have been able to ride with her full time and know that my riding would have improved tremendously if I could have done so. Since I was only able to haul in every couple of months I was always amazed to see how the kids under her tutelage were improving by leaps and bounds.

Thanks, RingosGirl. Exactly what I was wanting to know.

Chris DeVere at Black Bay Equestrian LLC= :frowning:

As for the Chris DeVere reccomendation, I disagree. I don’t in any way shape or form mean to be unfair, or negative, but I will only state the truth about her. She is only in the business for the money, she is not good with kids unless there are parents around. She owed my parents 90 bucks for canceling 3 lessons on us, we had paid for the 2, but her cancellations went into the next month. She refused to pay them back, because she “didn’t refuse the service”, but she actually did. She chose to move to Royal Oak Farm, bragging about having an all weather footing arena, but when it was maybe lightly sprinkling, she would text, not call, either an hour before a lesson, cancelling, or at 11 or 12 the night before. She is not a good business woman, and is very phony. I saw a different side of her when my parents weren’t around. Chris is a phony person, and a flake. I do not think she is a good choice for a girl of this age, that is, unless a parent will always be present. Do not pay for her lessons all at once, only pay each lesson, for if she cancels, she will say it is your fault, and refuse to pay the money back, for her faults, she isn’t at all what she portrays herself to be.

Travis C, please don’t put false information on these forums. I realize you are only 14, but these types of comments hurt people and their livelihoods. I realize you were upset about not being invited to the horse show, but you should have talked to me as your mom suggested. I never refused to teach you, your mom tried to reschedule the lessons she had paid for but said you did not want to come back. We spoke at length about your reluctance to return, as we were both mystified at how upset you were. I gave her a gift certificate for the last two lessons in the hopes that you would either reconsider and use them, or be able to sell or re-gift them. Most facilities close their outdoor arenas in the rain, even with all weather footing because they have to float (level out) the arena so water drains more efficiently. It is time consuming and needs to be done before it rains. I am not the barn owner, and do not have control over the arena schedule for which I apologize. Your mom preferred texting, as she was working two jobs and was not always available to answer the phone. I am disappointed that you chose to defame my character as a business person and trainer, but I hope that time and maturity will help you to understand that we all have to make do with imperfect circumstances.

Los Lagos has school horses and affordable lesson programs. It’s nice they have a covered arena and are located right on Folsom Lake trails. They sometimes take the students out to the beach for special occasions. Los Lagos teaches correct riding position and safety, as well as horsemanship. The horses and ponies are all sound, healthy and safe. My daughter loves it there.

I would reccomend Granite Bay Equestrian also. We have bought MANY wonderful horses from Granite Bay, and I have heard nothing but good with them.

Also Peardise Equestrain Center(I believe, maybe stables though) is a local Pony Club barn. Our regional DC is the trainer there, and we send a lot of our California kids there for lessons. It’s a huge kid friendly dynamic!

Oh, man, I think you should stop. You are having a disagreement with a kid in public. You also used a name other than his screen name. It doesn’t look professional to me.

I have a vote for Los Lagos also!

I recommend Patty also. Carol and Debbie might be a little far for them since its at least 45 min from Auburn to Elk Grove not counting traffic. If they are looking for a higher end barn then they may not mind driving so far.

We absolutely LOVE Crescendo Farm in Wilton under the direction of Grand Prix rider Carol Wright. Carol and Carly Swank are outstanding. Very positive atmosphere with great attention to detail for proper riding techniques. For anyone who is interested in show jumping, I highly recommend checking out Crescendo Farm at https://www.crescendofarm.com

The little girl in the OP is now 20. Its a zombie thread. If anybody is looking in the area, starting a new thread will get current recommendations without having to read through who was where and what was going on around 10 years ago.
