The polo field that was across from C.W. Post campus on the north side of 25A was sold years ago to developers. That was very sad. Also sad was the development where that big stable on 25A in Brookville that had the statue of the rolling horse. The Whitney Lane polo field is still gorgeous!

The farm with the rolling horse statue was Pen-Mor. It was a racing operation with separate barns for the youngsters and the broodmares. I worked in the broodmare barn for a little bit. Never saw the statue as a rolling horse, I always thought it looked much more than a horse with a broken leg trying to get to its feet. The statue is still there, and I still don’t like it!

Yes that statue always bothered me too. I sometimes think the horse is falling or colicking. Not a happy statue at all.

Yes, smithown Hunt did hunt through Harry’s property. Near his house there was a series of drop steps that ended at a water filled ditch( often there was a towel and soap hung by the jump).
Sometimes the bank jump in the upper field near the house was also used.

And Harry did start his own hunt but it was short lived. There just wasn’t enough territory to go around.

I hunted first with Meadowbrook but after I moved the horses to suffolk county I switched to Smithtown.
There was not as much showing in the winter as there is now and many who showed also hunted.

Near Old Mill Farm in Jericho there is access to the Muttontown Park and to the Old Westbury college property. Old Mill Farm is now county owned.
