where are you located?

As you have just found out there are a lot of hunts in this area. I do hope you find what you are looking for.

Do try more than one hunt with each if you can as you can have a completely different ride one day to the next.

I hope you have a great time!!

I’m a Massachusetts resident and I strongly “second” the opinion about Tanheath being a great option especially for newcomers. While I haven’t hunted with them for years, I know many people that still do and throughout a long expanse of time, the consensus is always the same, the people are great, they’re very helpful to the newcomers, etc.![/QUOTE]

I used to hunt with Tanheath as a teenager. Very happy to hear they are still around 20 odd years later. :D:D:D

Guilford Hounds

Littlebarnbaby,

Most of the New England hunts are out of season right now. The exception is Tanheath. Tanheath’s season will wrap up in early spring. As for Guilford Hounds, you are most welcomed to join us. Our spring season will hopefully be starting up in April. We will have a couple of months of hunting, take a break for summer and then resume in the fall. The only issue with that is since we have receive one of the highest snowfalls on record, our spring season will be gauged by drainage and the ability of the territory to dry out sufficiently to allow horses and hounds.

I invite you to look over our website www.guilfordhounds.com. There you will find tons of information, pictures and videos. In addition if you have a rough date you will be down I can certainly provide you the contact information for any of the hunts in New England. Coming from Maine, there are many hunts you can get to. Some hunts are out on Tuesdays and Saturdays, others Wednesday and Sunday and some still yet on Thursdays. Some begin at 7:00 am, others at 2:00 pm. There is a variety of times while would allow you to hunt multiple times in a week. Of the ten MFHA registered hunts in New England, seven are drag hunts, three are live.

For Guilford, stabling can be arranged easily as I can think of three stables off the top of my head in close proximity to a variety of fixtures.

Guilford Hounds also hosts a variety of riding events through the summer. Schooling trials, hunter paces and new this year (because eventamy requested it) a Derby Cross.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions.

Ok have to ask…

Derby Cross???

Derby Cross

A timed event where a team of two to four riders navigate a cross country course with natural jumps, obstacles and water hazards.

Think of it like a cross between the team effort of a hunter pace and the thrill of a steeple chase. Except where the steeple chase is a large number of horses all starting together, the Derby Cross is just your team going out together. It is like a cross country course for an entire team. You compete for the lowest time.

 I was trying to make it like a roller derby where you go out with a group of folks and try to unsaddle you opponent. The one who comes back to the barn still mounted wins. But that got vetoed
