thanks for thinking of us!
We had some damage for sure: two broken windows, some roof damage, and two AC units didn’t come back on when the power did. We have sloping land, so no flooding, but instead we got horrendous washout damage! Think ~3’ deep ravine along one fence line–it completely washed out to about 18" below the bottoms of the fence posts in a few areas. For now we’re using electric fence tape and a temporary ‘stand off fence’ to keep the horses safe and away from the chasms, while waiting to get estimates on what repairs will entail and cost. We got a similar washout in the middle of our driveway, but luckily have enough room to drive around it. I feel like I can’t complain: we were only without power about 48 hrs, and no flooding or tree through my house or barn. Horses were all in for the storm, and only one was upset about the weather (she got some dermosedan gel for the worst of the storm, and she was fine after that). Overall, the farm fared okay, though a few trees in the back pasture are now leaning, and will have to come down, and the horses were safe, which was the priority of course.
We’re only a few miles from some of the danger areas from the Cape Fear River, and seeing some of the pictures on FB, my heart just goes out to those people.
Luckily, a week later, most of the flooding has receded (in areas not near cresting rivers, at least) and most of the local roads are open again.
