I am a socially awkward penguin and I need help giving my 30 days to the people who own the horse I lease

Wow, you are really nice. But all that seems a bit excessive assuming you were paying them for use of Dobbin. Or, if a free lease, relieving them of some/all of the costs. I do like the idea of a card and horse treats…that feels like a nice gesture. But card, gift bag, gift card? That feels a little over the top.

If you expect to see the owner/trainer in the future, hope to business with them again or use them as a reference, a card and a favorite treat for Dobbin are very nice gestures.

It depends on the lessee’s perspective as well. Owners assume a lot of risk leasing out a horse. You can read threads on this BB where many HO’s have been burned and swear off leasing altogether.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but it never hurts to express your appreciation.

Over the top being nice? Um- no. Not expected and perhaps in the category of Above and Beyond. It is a sweet, genuine gesture showing appreciation.

I stand by my statement. I doubt most horse leases end with the lessor giving the lessee gift cards/presents. If I had a horse out on lease to someone who paid on time and took great care of my horse, I would be delighted to get a card and treats for Dobbin as a nice gesture. If they tried to give me a gift card, I would not accept it. Their honoring of the contract and care of the horse is plenty.
