What do you call footing that is frozen hard on top and muddy underneath. It can support a human but a horse breaks through the frozen layer into the mud which is often deep enough to come up over a horse’s pasterns. It can occur on a trail before a stream crossing or other chronically wet spot. I really feel there should be a name for it. Crunch mud is all I can come up with. Any other names for it?
The Devil’s Slurry/ Misery paste, … freezing mud might be in my top ten least favorite things.
