I started reading your blog and had to tell you that I bought my SSH gelding sight unseen and have never regretted it. Sept 5th, I will have owned him 7 years. Rico was everything his previous owners said he was and more. Best of luck with your new darling filly, she is gorgeous.

I’m following your blog

Gorgeous girl! Congrats!

She looks like a dainty version of my gelding! What a lovely girl! I’ll be following your blog for sure!

OMG, I’m exhausted! I decided for a couple reasons to not have the hauler pick up pony and bring her to me, so Mr. PoPo and I just got home from going to get her ourselves…from NorCal to Phoenix…leaving yesterday morning and getting home just tonight. We got maybe three hours sleep last night, as we wanted to get on the road by 4 a.m. to beat the heat (which turned out to not be a problem) and experienced rain/thunder/lighting storm in AZ (and 8 people were killed by lightning in Santa Monica today!), a dust storm in the CA desert, the dreaded grapevine, and the long and boring drive through the central valley.

This morning in the dark was the first time I laid eyes on her, and she is a NICE mare. Wow, I’m one lucky girl! She was appropriately cautious about getting on my trailer while her friends were whinnying for her, but a couple carrots and some patience and she walked on without incident (always forward, even if just a step or a lean, good girl!). A couple minutes of pawing, and then she settled down and was quiet the whole trip.

We stopped many times to check on her and offer her water and she was so polite and interested in us, and one lady at the gas station even came over to say hello and pony was very friendly. I think the dust storm made her eyes a bit watery, but no bother. I came out from getting lunch and caught Mr. PoPo gently giving her a sponge bath on her face, which she seemed to love. He, I think, is smitten with this lovely little mare. Whenever we stopped we’d offer her water, I’d go in to the gas station to pee, and come out to find Mr. PoPo fussing over her.

When we got home she politely backed off the trailer (she had been on short trailer rides at home, but nothing like an 800+ mile trip!) nickered at the boys, went into her separate paddock and had a good pee, poop, and lots of water. The boys seemed interested and I thought “uh-oh, here we go” - but as soon as they heard me preparing their dinner they lost their interest in her and I put them in their stall/paddocks and went to get pony and bring her up to her stall/paddock (which is across the aisle from theirs - I’ll keep them separated for a couple weeks to make sure she doesn’t have a cold or anything). She got a nice hay pellet mash with electrolytes, some fresh water, some hay, and a kiss good night.

Since it was dark when I got home, I’ll get lots of pictures tomorrow!!!
