I got my Amish craiglist mutt pony turned eventer DNA tested! (answer post #22!)

Another vote for WHERE does the test?

So, the way they have things grouped together, it’s more like “type” than
“breed,” but she came with her matches like this:
1st: “Irish breeds”
2nd: Morgan, Saddlebred
3rd: Pony- New Forest, Highland

The Irish thing has me a little baffled, but not totally. There are a lot of driving connemara around my area, so it’s possible she has some infusion of Irish blood in there, but she had to get her draftiness somewhere. So I think (because I can justify anything) since the Irish draught and the percheron are more of light draft breeds, perhaps it “dinged” Irish.

That said, I’m going to send my trainer’s perch/TB off and see how it comes back, then we’ll know. :D:D

This is how the results come back:

Here’s where I sent it:

Actually, a friend of mine owns a Morgan- Connemara cross who looks a lot like your horse.

Your horse is great!

I say Hackney judging from her front end action and Morgan (or could be Standardbred).

I’m also skeptical about the test. Many years ago I contacted the University of Kentucky about testing a horse I was leasing–I thought he was an Arab/QH. They said it couldn’t be done because so many different breeds went into making up the QH breed. They said they could only check for markers if the stud books had been closed for at least two hundred years.

Well thanks for letting us play

I tend to agree with all the “Morgan” folk - of course it’d be interesting to send in some Morgan & known Morgan crosses to see what you get back
Of course it’s quite possible that both dam & sire were already crosses which really starts to jumble up any DNA guesses.

If I get sufficiently motivated I’ll send in FP’s
(that would take a lot of motivation :o - I’ve been meaning to get him color tested for years)

Did you send it to the Animal Genetics lab? How much did it cost?

Sorry, just want to send it to the right place.

I can see it… Very nice mare…BTW! On a bit of a separate note… I can find the results from Elisa Wallace, what did she find? Which mustang did she test, I just stalked all over her FB and website… I am curious even though I known DNA tests are more for fun than anything else.

Here’s a link

Here you go. I found this link after hearing an interview with Elisa.

My mustang’s hair is already there and I’m awaiting the results!

Want to know!!

How cool! We’ve done this with our dogs since they were both rescues. I see you link on where you got it done but how much does it cost and how do I do it???

This link has all the info including price!

Cute horse with a great attitude. The first video reminded me of both my of my son’s Connemara and a student’s Morgan. Both were honest and were fun to event.

I was going to guess morgan/connemara

I would have guessed the same as others - Morgan cross…

I had the same testing done with my unknown-breeding-horse, too. Though she is actually half-known (APHA sire). The results were a bit baffling since it didn’t come back with ANY QH and her sire is mostly QH… Anyone want to guess what she came back with?

I have two registered Morgans in my program- one “show type” and one foundation. If anyone wants to pony up the $25, I’ll send it off to be tested just to see. I’m already planning on doing my trainers perch/TB just for fun.

I was going to say Morgan cause she looks like my Morgan appendix. She’s cute

I agree with Morgan/Standardbred cross!

I can see the Irish. My old trainer had a Connemara/TB had his head and body type look similiar.

Whatever breed, what a nice horse. It looks like you as a pair were having a lot of fun. Makes me want to swap over from H/J land to Eventer land. I just don’t know how to start! I would love a horse like yours.

Thanks!! I just love that girl. I do everything on her including trail riding bareback in a rope halter. One of my students has started riding her and I’m hoping she will buy her this summer. It breaks my heart to let her go, but she’s maxed out and loves to be someone’s #1.

She has taught me so much- in the words of Kyle Carter: she prefers to be ridden like an UL horse but doesn’t punish you when you don’t ride her that way.

Looks like a Morgan to me. The AMHA has DNA testing and there are many Morgans in the Amish community.
