The perfect trail horse for a certain person doesn’t have to do everything perfectly IMHO. They just have to be just right for that person. I have my perfect little trail horse, flaws and all. My adorable little Arab mare has way too much personality and attitude, is opinionated and temperamental. But I trained her and am the only one who’s ever ridden her and I have her the way I want. She has heart and spirit and is very willing. I would rather be out on the trail with her than any other horse I’ve known. She’s not perfect, and we have our little discussions sometimes. But she’s just right for me and I wouldnt’ have her any other way. If she was absolutely perfect, I’d be kind of disappointed. I’m sure alot of people wouldn’t get along with her, but I do, so she’s perfect for me.[/QUOTE]
That’s what this thread is all about, why YOUR trail horse is perfect for YOU. Maybe not perfect to everyone’s standards, but that’s what makes it great!
For example, like I mentioned, my mare is a perfect trail mount in my eyes, but an endurance rider would probably take one look at my massive bulldog horse and run the other direction. Nope, we can’t trot or canter for miles on end. Yep, we need lots of walk breaks. But I betcha my mare’s little romps for 100 feet or so will be a whole lot faster than most horses. ;):lol:
