Sorry about your flowers.
I left mine behind to be in a better house (took DH and kid with me though ;))
And sorry that your hard work has been bulldozed.
But I am very happy to hear that you are doing well. It is the best revenge!

I’ll wish you strength, too, though it seems like you have lots.
Happy for you!

Hi all, I popped in for some horse care advice and thought I’d update here.
Wow, has life changed. Divorce was final almost exactly 6 months to the day my husband walked out. I haven’t been screamed at or called a bitch in so long, I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like :).
I’m down to one mare, Samantha (the Arab). I’m still fostering Angel, the 34 year old TB, and the goat keeps them both company. I’m boarding at my vets place which is not quite 2 miles from home. My daughter and I settled into a small but nice house in town. The dogs are adjusting - we’re adjusting, to walks and scooping poop. The cats are adjusting to being housecats.
I’ve been doing really well but had a bit of a meltdown over the weekend when I passed the farm and saw my beautiful flower garden thriving, despite the neglect - so many of those plants were from friends, I felt like I’d abandoned them. My ex husband removed all of the fencing, my arena, my little cross country course, paddocks, pasture fences…it’s all gone. It was hard to see, but I’m in such a better place.
Glad to have been through it to see how good I’ve got it now :). I hope this encourages anyone who is going through it to keep pressing, look for the light.
I’ll always remember the things I read here. Reading through t again was hard, but it also felt like a giant hug all over again.[/QUOTE]
You need to have a “fresh start” party and have everyone bring a plant so you can start your gardens again. Thanks for checking in-it looks like you’re well on your way to a better future!
Wishing you love and happiness with your sweet daughter. Our old house went on the market a couple of years ago and I saw the pictures. They tore out all my roses. My lovely rose garden that I worked so hard for during a long drought where I took buckets of bath water to keep the roses alive.
I’m glad to be out of that neighborhood but wish I would have dug up my roses…

That sounds like an awesome idea!
Was thinking of you the other day and was hoping you and DD were well. Glad you checked in.

Hi HundredAcres! Happy to see you here again!
Glad you are in a better place now!

Remember, the best revenge is living well and being happy.
Good Luck!
He could take the fencing down, the arena, the jumps, all that stuff. But the flowers still thrive despite lack of care. Metaphor I think. You and your daughter are still blooming and thriving. Hugs to you.
So glad to hear from you, hundredacres. I just read back through your trials and tribulations. So glad you’re exacting your revenge. Thinking of you, and your continued happiness.
Hey, listen - you said “party”. The “flower party” is a great idea!
Good to hear your positive update
Any chance you could get some cuttings of your flowers?
I know vengeful ex may not allow you, but maybe if DD asked?
IIWM, I might arrange a Stealth Raid on those flowers…
I brought with me some coneflower & iris from my Chgo house.
Also took some brick from the foundation after they tore the place down (turned old frame 2-flat into 4-story brick condo).
10yrs later the perennials are flourishing in my meadow & beds near the house and the bricks sit in my flowerbeds & remind me of the wonderful times I shared with my DH in that house.
The tiny yard at my new place is a blank slate, and honestly until now, it never occurred to me to start new flower gardens. I’m all over it now - I even laid awake last night envisioning where I will put new beds :).
If anyone is thinning gardens out this summer, and wants to share some bulbs or cuttings, I will happily accept :). What an amazing idea ~~
I think I’ve read a plaque or quote somewhere that says, Home is Where the Garden Grows.
New beginnings aren’t bad - much like a fire is cleansing and brings new life to the forest.
As usual, the thoughtfulness here warms my heart.

Loved both of these posts. Great to hear from you hundredacres and to know that you and DD are thriving. Good for you for accepting and embracing the change, that is not an easy thing to do. Can’t wait to see pictures of your new flower beds!!
Freecycle can be your friend - if it’s active around you
People around here are constantly offering cuttings, splitting iris patches, daylillies, etc and offering them up to people.
We have a gorgeous group of daylilies from someone lightening up their beds.
PM me your address and I can mail you some tiger lily seeds to get you started, they’ll grow into a plant this year disappear over the winter and come back next year to bloom.

top picture is what they look like. They get about 4 feet tall then bloom. Perennials that reseed.
Sounds like this new garden may turn into the “COTH Fresh Start” garden. I’m in Ontario but next time I’m in New York I’d be happy to send you some of your favourite seeds, or a gift card to somewhere…if you message me your address.
PM me your address and I will send you moonflower seeds. If you are ever northwest of Chicago, you are welcome to as many hostas and dead nettle as you can fit in your car
PM me with your address and I’ll send you some iris when the weather gets a bit cooler. I have to divide them this year, and would be happy to send you some.
Aw, thanks so much! It will be so special to have plants from my Coth family :). I won’t be planting until early fall, so no hurry! I’ll message you.
I make handmade soap, so I’ll send you some soap as a trade, so be sure to include your return address.
yay!
I also have some iris (a gift from a friend) and other plants that could stand to be divided this fall…let me know also when your garden is ready and I’ll send things to help you fill it out!
I’ll be dividing some of my daylilies this fall. I have, as a matter of fact, already started the hunt to find some people who want some in their garden. I’ll be glad to send you some Just PM me your address.
