It’s not a one-day project. You have to make the dough and chill it. Then roll it out really thin, cut out the cookies, and bake the cookies. Baked cookies then need to cool. By then I’ve generally had enough and put them away in tins to await decorating. Then you spread them out to decorate and pray that your can’t doesn’t decide to join in the fun. I just make basic icing from powdered sugar, adding food coloring, and there’s something you can add to make it harden faster (zoning out on name). Then you wait for the icing to harden enough so that you can put the cookies away without them all sticking together. Again, you pray that the cat doesn’t discover them in the meantime.
If anyone has a gingerbread cookie recipe that doesn’t stick together like Saran wrap, I’d like to hear about it. The last time I tried I gave up.
