So I went to Pimlico last Wed for a Sunrise Tour…and I didn’t think it was bad? Of course driving by the barns on the backstretch things looked pretty rough, and the Concourse wasn’t in amazing shape. But the grandstand and club house were freshly painted and looked good. Inside there is a very 60s vibe but it all seemed in good repair and tended to.
Hoping to go back Monday for the closing day of the meet.
I went in 2005 for the Preakness, it was underwhelming to say the least.
I maybe misremembering, but hasn’t Baltimore made an appeal recently to the state to get funds for renovating Pimlico and the areas surrounding it? $300 million seems to ring a bell in my head. It would be a shame for it to be moved out of Baltimore.
$300 million is just the beginning. There is a lot wrong with the plant that a fresh coat of paint can’t fix. The plumbing and electric are way outdated and just gimping along. It basically needs a wrecking ball.
