My family practice doctor got a very early morning phone call that one of her patients had died. Doc’s sister is the practice manager, and she called her and wanted the contact information for the family. The sister looked, and found no one with that name. There are two family practice doctors with the same first and last name, and the hospital called the wrong doctor.
I was on vacation, actually at the WEG last year, and I checked my voicemail and there’s a message from a friend saying “Please call ASAP!” She was keeping an eye on my horse, but not riding him. I had hired the barn’s trainer to ride him, since he’s somewhat of an advanced ammy/professional’s ride. I was just about to panic as I dialed her, but reason told me that if something had happened to my horse, the person riding him would have called. As it turned out, my friend’s 26 year old horse, which I rode for her on occasion, had died. Relief and sadness in one call. Sadly, he had died in the trailer on the way to UC Davis (colic).
We are going away for a couple of months, and my son is baby sitting my ancient JRT. I was texting on a group chat including my husband. Part of that conversation…

Yup, I always ask owners to provide me with a financial number to not go over just in case, heaven forbid, anything were to happen and they can’t be reached.
Ugh, once I was farm sitting for a friend and overnight on the first night, her childhood pony passed (he had just bounced back from acting a little yucky). We couldn’t get a hold of each other for some time, but since my initial voicemail did not mention that everything was fine, she figured what happened.
