Lol. My pm mailbox is “sick”
Canter on ~
I came home this afternoon because I could work here as well as in my office, and found Nige asleep in the front room with the other kitties. He got some canned syringed into him, drank some water, and after taking a nap, came in to my room and is voluntarily eating some Science Diet C/D. And not a few nibbles, but actually sitting and eating for about 4 minutes! It’s not what I would prefer him to eat, but I will take him eating whatever he wants right now. I’m soaking some K/D to see how it works with a syringe. It’s been soaking for 2 hours and is just barely mashable. This will be difficult. But we’ll try it .
I, myself am thrilled with this update !
Nigel ~ GOOD JOB !
Yay for kitties that eat!
Eating is always a good sign. Even if they’re not eating the ideal food. It’s good that he’s hanging out with the other kitties too!
GO Nigel!!! Keep eating - get better! We are jingling for both of you!!
Today is not a good day.
Nigel didn’t sleep in my room last night, and came out of hiding later. He refused to eat the dry, but did drink. I syringe-fed him before work, and at lunch. I also gave him a famatodine dose, but I don’t think he actually swallowed it.
He threw up his lunch, I think. Was hiding when I came home, though he did drink a little. He drank again at 7, so I also did his subQ’s. He just came out a bit ago, drank a lot of water, then threw it up.
I wish I knew why yesterday was so good - I thought maybe we’d figured out the magic formula - but today he’s clearly not well. He’s to go back to the vet tomorrow for a B-12 shot, and I have a feeling the vet will want to talk about end of life choices. I’d hoped we were turning a corner, but today he is just so much worse. Don’t know what else I can do for him.
((hugs)) - keep pushing onward - a bad night usually results in an “off” day - let’s Jingle for some good rest tonight - glad he got his subq.
Know you’re doing all you can ~ you need rest too ~ Jingles & AO tomorrow is a better day ~ B-12 should give him a boost -
** take your fluids and have fluids administered at vet clinic ~ take that chore off yourself tomorrow ~
Just make sure you put a pee pad in carrier under the towel ~ drive home quickly to litter box vicinity.
No stopping for Skittles ! or chocolate ….
Oh crap. I am sorry to hear this. I will say this, though - Ollie had his ups and downs and so did every cat I had that got that sick. I hope he turns the corner tomorrow and that today was just a down day. The B12 will make him feel better.
Take care of yourself so can take care of him.
We are still here for you both. Still jingling.
Good Morning ! Hoping everyone had some rest and recovery overnight ~
Bring on the B-12 ! And subQ
JINGLES & AO for You Two !
Thank you so much for all the encouragement - it means more than you can know.
Nigel woke me up at 4am eating the dry I keep in my room. And again at 5. And he’s been nibbling all morning. I got the water fountain set up last night, and he’s loving it. So we’ll see what happens.
Thank you for this ^ Thursday SMILE !
JINGLES & AO !
((Hug)) your beloved Nigel and tell him you’re proud of him ~ I am !
I’m so sorry that he felt so bad yesterday. We all know that awful feeling when you want so much to help them feel better but you don’t know what to do. You feel completely helpless and it’s so frustrating and upsetting.
Fingers crossed for you at the vet appointment. Is Nigel already on an anti-nausea medicine? If not, you might want to ask about this or get something to have at home. Pepcid can help them feel better but sometimes they might need something stronger for nausea.
Dewey’s kidney failure was chronic (not acute) but he definitely had good days and bad days. I hope today is much better. It’s great that he’s been nibbling all morning!
It’s a rollercoaster. Good days and bad days and with my guys there wasn’t necessarily a correlation with anything I did or didn’t do medication or fluid wise.
I do wish I had pushed the vet for cerenia with my kidney guy, so Nigel may need something stronger than pepcid.
I’m glad he woke you eating. That’s a great sound after a poor eating day.
He’s on Pepcid now (and mirtazopine), but getting the pills into him is a PITA. I’ve asked for the transdermal gel; my vet doesn’t carry it generally, but said they’d look into getting it. One or the other would be great; both come in the gel.
Helpless is it. Exactly.
I will ask about the cerenia. I think I’ve used it with other cats before. In fact, I think we used it with Nigel when he had histo (when we didn’t realize the medicine was what was making him nauseated).
I gave him another Pepcid last night - I had a feeling he’d spit out the other one w/o me seeing it, and I think it helped.
Well, Nigel went for his B-12 shot. I had them do his subQs at the same time. He was NOT happy, according to the vet tech! He hissed and howled at his shot, and she could only do 50ccs of fluids (which is about what I’ve been able to do before he’s had enough). She was encouraged by this, as he’s normally very docile/quiet when he feels bad.
He did not lose any weight this week, and in fact weighed 1oz more than he did a week ago (I’m sure it’s water weight, but as long as he’s not losing weight, I’ll take it). He came home, shot out of the crate, and immediately asked to be fed. I left him chowing down.
I am delighted with his cantankerous behavior at the vet clinic • see you’re doing great, getting 50 cc in him !
any weight gain is great ! And “ I left him chowing down.” = the icing on the cake !
Thanks for taking the time to share the good Nigel news !
I am too! Yay for you and Nigel! I’m so glad that today is better than yesterday.
