One underrated attraction at the KHP is the USHJA Wheeler Museum. If you’re at all a show jumping fan/equestrian sports history nerd it’s worth checking out, weird hours aside (think 8-5/9-5 and typically only open Mon. thru Fri.) It’s in the USHJA offices, hence the hours, and it’s not large, but very cool!
Yes, I did. Hence why I included it in the quote. Allow me to screen shot when I’m seeing:
If someone can tell me how I’m not doing this correctly, I’d love to be able to use this tool. But nothing appears to be scheduled in any state in 2024 according to this.
Definitely closer, looks like nothing listed for 2024 yet but I’ll bookmark the link
Usually they announce the next years dates for LRK3DE at the event. Or a few days before.
If you can get a direct flight from Bellingham that would be awesome. And yes - I try for direct flights so I can check bags. We went through Chicago the first year and the connection was dicey.
Also, while there you have to visit Old Friends Farm!! Awesome retirement home for TB’s.
I actually lived in Lexington for several years as a child, I did PC and 4H and showed at the Horse Park several times, and I’m pretty sure we did a tour at this barn and a breeding barn… I really just want to visit and do the things, see some awesome athletes, and make a jaunt to TN to visit with the breeder of my current filly and hopeful future filly () or colt.
It’s always the last weekend in April
While we’re collecting suggestions, if a non-horsey person was coming along, what would you recommend they do? I know people say bourbon tours, but are those arranged through distilleries? Is there a tour company? Any other recommendations in the area very welcome!
Woodford Reserve has a great tour. (They’re about 1/2 hr. from the Horse Park.)

I am surprised how no one mentions the amazing detail on the statues at Thoroughbred Park on the East side of downtown Lexington - East Main St.
And the Overbrook Farm tapestry at the Univ of KY library.

You are not going to find non-stops out of Bham so you are going to have to use SEA. Depending on airline you might find a non stop but my experience with Delta has been pretty much always 1 stop. Most often with Minneapolis as the hub. Alaska probably has a bit more to offer in the non-stop department. I always plan for a minimum 1 hour lay over since I travel with my archery gear, which is checked
You could probably fly to London (9.5 to 10 hours and go to Badminton ahem) in the same amount of time that it takes to get to many east coast cities, particularly Florida
I am going to Ohio at the end of July and the best route home is actually via NYC.
If you dont want to arrive at your destination in the late evening, you are likely to need to fly out of SEA in the early hours. It seems like most of my flights leave between 6 and 7 am.
I have flown out of Seatac maaaaany times. I’m not a Seatac virgin
Not to hijack but would anyone be interested in getting together a COTH group for 2024? Like we could go in together on an Air B&B or something?
20 years ago we used to do these kind of things on COTH all the time.
I could be interested in such a thing.
@TheJenners when searching flights, if you dont find a non stop from SEA consider a 1 stop via Alaska Air out of Paine Field. Fly to Portland and search non-stops from there. that helps you bypass SEA though flights out of Paine tend to have a premium price. At least the airport is at the other end of the ferry dock and you dont face that horrible drive through King County traffic
Seconding this!
I always bring up the Wheeler Museum b/c they’re relatively unknown but Old Friends is fun, too!
Those are good, I saw them the first time I went to Lexington and took a few fun photos that I think I lost multiple computers ago.
