Yeah, lots of snow in Carbondale and really anywhere on the Western Slope. Keeping horses there is a pain IMO. Also the crazy weather and temperature swings in CO make colic a very real concern.
Has nobody mentioned NC yet? There are so many great areas of the state. The cost is nothing compared to the Bay Area. Weather is pretty good, winters aren’t bad. Lots and lots of showing opportunities around. Good vets, good farriers.
If DH and I ever move, it will be back to Lexington. We lived in Paris and absolutely miss it.
Another great option is Columbus, OH. There are many show barns, you’re close to nice show venues (Brave Horse, WEC Ohio, Traverse City, etc). We were there for a year and loved it. Unfortunately work moved us away.
You should check out Nevada County (Grass Valley, Nevada City, PennValley). Housing prices still reasonable . We bought a beautiful five acre horse property (from another COTHer) a few years ago. We’re an hour from Roseville and about 75 minutes from Sacto. A zillion hunter/jumper barns within 45 minutes (and not at Bay Area prices),Tahoe is nearby. Great trails. Fun towns. Shill a horse community up here!
