Ikea bins for feed storage?

I have all three - Bergan Stack 'N Store. good old metal trashcans and conventional feed bins by Behlen County. When most of the horses are eating the same feeds, these are definitely the winner, hands down. They can be easily divided into two compartments (and a handy person could divide one into 4 or more compartments - or just open the feed bags and stand them up inside the bin). 17 years and never a rodent/raccoon problem (haven’t chewed through it, can’t open lid). They still look brand new and the hinges have held up too.

I use my Bergan bins for PDZ stall freshener, horse treats and other items (I have the medium sized ones, not the huge ones). They have been very durable, rodent proof and easy to wash/clean. They stack well and come with different color doors so if you’re a color-coordinating nut like me, you can find a color that works.

I use the metal trash cans outdoors for keeping compressed alfalfa hay in. Keeps it dry and fresh, right next to the pasture for ease of use (this is just in late fall/winter).

I use these (minus the locking lid, they didn’t have those when I was buying them). They hold 50 lbs of feed and are reasonably priced.

Does anyone realize this is an old thread from 2016?

I keep forgetting to look at the date of the first post…

Keeping the zombie thread going…

Not rodent proof. Ask me how I know (in an OFFICE not a barn!)

The thread may be old and the OP may be long gone, but this is a timeless issue.

Actually, I am here- I ended up getting a Vittle Vault for my own stuff, but it may still be a useful thread for someone.

I will vouch for Vittle Vaults being horse-proof, too. I kept a small on in my locker for horse treats. The locker is inside my horse’s stall. On day I forgot to lock it up and he got into everything. The Vittle Vault was pretty gnawed and kicked around, but intact and still usable.

I have the Burlinggame feed bins outside at home and stored birdseed inside. Squirrels gnawed through the lids. Since they are molded as a set – no replacement lids available. ouch, pricewise.
