I am guessing you are hooked!
Resurrecting this because I leave tomorrow for HR! I’m so excited to finally be going on a vacation that I should have gone on 2 years ago! I’ll be in VA for a week of ponies, fun and wine!
Excellent! You are going to have a great time. And I am only a little bit envious that you get to go and I don’t.
Enjoy! I went out with some COTHers on an abbreviated (due to my own schedule!) hunting weekend @ HR years back and had a wonderful time! Can’t wait to hear the report back!
UPDATE: Air Force Wife did it. She made her hunt field debut today, Thursday Nov. 9 with the Old Dominion Hounds at a notoriously fox-free fixture just around the corner from the Old Kennels and Hunter’s Rest!
She looked fab - we swapped her white stock tie for a nice gents’ tie when I realized her inadvertent faux pas on an informal day - otherwise, her attire was spot on. The weather was nice, her horse nicely matched, her riding position solid and secure.
Other than an errant coyote - we consider them riot - we were all but blank, but it was a sweet start to what i’d expect to be a lifelong passion.
I’m already drumming up contacts with Mission Valley and Fort Leavenworth, which are near-ish her where she and Mr. AFW are stationed in Missouri.
Going again Saturday, from my place - a notoriously fox HEAVY neighborhood.
AirForceWife, it was nice to meet you the other day. I hope you have a blast this weekend!
It was great to meet you too WNT!
If you are a little chilly starting out that is perfect because you will warm up quickly.
I’m also going to have a weekend hunt. I’m really excited about this hunt.
Have a blast! I fox hunt in a non- wool show coat. I just put a white thermal long john shirt under my white show shirt, and With all the riding I get toasty. If you use a hair net, you can use hair under it as an ear cover. My feet always end up being the coldest, so ditto on toe warmers. But when your feet are frozen to the stirrups, it’s makes it harder to fall off
Yup, lol. At least no “proper hunt”. These days with all of the high tech thin, warm and comfortable under layering thanks to the boom in skiing, backpacking mountaineering it’ really not necessary for “outerwear”. A couple packs of “hand warmers” in ones coat pocket and unless your boots are sized too small for hunting in cold weather, high tech socks and a packet of foot warmer in each boot’s toe area. All this keeps everything pretty darn toasty.
Now, years ago a completely different story, lol.
